It's reasonably well respected, but perhaps not in the uppermost echelon. It has the possibility of being deemed irrelevant and unimportant depending on what you're applying for, though.

Re: Computing?
i think the computing courses are changing either this year or next year, to be more like ICT courses. having said that, computing opens up a considerable number of well paid job opportunities.
i'm in the A2 year and the head of computing told me the syllabus is changing to be less programming based
oh well i'm not fussed, i've finished the A2 pretty much!
Yeah, I'm at A2 too.
I think it depends on the exam board. From what I've seen of AQA (new & old), the new seems to have a lot more HTML and then Delphi (vs. Pascal). It might not be greatly more programming, but I definitely would have enjoyed to do HTML at AS (considering how easy it is ). Oh, and IIRC there is a practical exam too

html isn't a programming language, thats why they dont teach it like they do with pascal, c etc.

Agreed, it's not. But it still it makes it more programming based, rather than less as you stated.

It depends who you ask, generally it's fine unless you're applying to something ultracompetitive like Law or Med.
I wana do medicine .....I've picked Bio,Chem,Maths and I don't know what to pick for the fourth....I like things based on ICT and I heard Computing is respected, so i wasan't sure.
I applied to study Medicine and I do A2 Biology, Chemistry, Computing and Mathematics. It certainly is a contrasting subject, bearing in mind that a few select medical schools do put across that it may be advantageous to do a contrasting subject besides Chemistry and Biology. It really is up to you though. A2 requires a lot more time and effort, especially with the coursework component.
I've applied for Law and was accepted at Bristol UWE and Cardiff with Computing.
However I am doing 4 A Levels, so it's hard to justify that.
However, Computing is FAR more welcomed than ICT, and in today's market, proving computing knowledge will open up loads of opportunities compared to most other courses.
Also, only consider taking it if you genuinely like programming and are willing to work on the theory... Mr. MadMonkey has it spot on, but in my view, Computing is right up their with the prestigious courses (other than the obvious trio of Maths, English and Science.)
