Should the G20 march be dismantled?

What good is it going to do, with a load of people shouting nonsense and having silly posters? Do they really think the world's 20 most powerful people are going to take a blind bit of notice? When there's all these women with nose-rings and tattoos and dreadlocks etc walking down the street chanting, having it broadcast reflects very badly on Britain across the world, as they think we're all that unattractive. Why aren't the police therefore doing more to end it?

I think it reflects very well. We show we allow freedom of speech etc. and it looks pretty good, showing that not all Brits are like the ones abroad, some of us can gather in a large group without feeling the need to fight. And why should the police stop it? On what grounds could/should they?

let me call a guy..he'll sort it out :P

But tbh i agree, people can scream oppression of free speech as much as they want, but since when has this kind of thing really went well?
Look at G8, it started off fine, but it turned to chaos because groups started to incite a riot (not saying it was everyone, but minority influence made it turn into mass disorder), my dad is a police officer in edinburgh and when i seen officers getting park benches thrown off them i was so worried, i was ashamed that people who wern't even from scotland had come into the city and decided to tear it up saying they wanted to protest against the G8 when all they really wanted to do was start riots and give what could be a perfecltly peaceful protest a terrible reputation.
I dont think its really going to work at all. We'll see how long it takes to break into disorder.

On the grounds that the people with noserings/tattoos/dreadlocks are reflecting badly on us as foreigners will think we all look like that.

I'd prefer to be thought of as that rather than a fat, drunk, England shirt wearing, moron. And I seriously doubt one march is going to overturn that image, or the centuries old one of upper class twits.

Are they? Well I never...

I didnt even bother to read anything about it, just assumed it was the same old demonstrations that always happen when all the worlds leaders get together, only this time a touch larger due to the recession.

I think one of the slogans is 'Jobs'? Sounds like a demand for a return to demand-management to me...

A large minority of people at these kind of things are there for the thrill of it, not because they particularly care about/even understand what they're protesting at. I'm willing to bet it will not be peaceful, a lot of people go to cause as much trouble as they possibly can.

Well we can only speak for yesterdays one, but I've just checked the news and saw no reports of any trouble whatsoever. Heck yesterday I even saw a picture of 2 policemen who should have been keeping everything in order buying ice ccreams because they had so little to do. They described it as 'calm' and like a party.

Of course there are some later in the week, you may seem some trouble then, but if Saturdays was anything to go by, it looks pretty peaceful.
Its ironic that its an anti capitalism protest when almost all the world leaders are using terrible socialist policies.
It most certainly should not be 'dismantled'. People have the right to voice their opinion and take part in peaceful marches.

More's the point.....should the G20 charade be canned? It's just another talk shop. Nothing will be achieved.

There are so many trolls on this forum! Do you guys really not see these people coming a mile off...? Wow.
I think there's no way in the world it should have been staged in London in the light of the current climate.

Moronic anarchist groups and the like are intent on causing trouble, which will only give the pretext needed for either the police to shut things down or the army to be used.

All this could result in further restrictions on peaceful protest.

I would suggest that genuine protestors jump on the trouble makers and hand them over to the police, should they feel able. On second thougths they would probably get charged with assault if they did.

:ditto:
It could end up making things worse if a rift opens up between France/Germany, US/UK and China/Russia, which looks increasingly likely.
All the politicians are saying an agreement is very close and yet we've got Sarkozy and Merkel on one side of London essentially blaming and berating Obama and Brown (who seem to think this is some sort of state visit) on the other.

I can understand the climate change protesters, but not these other protesters. All I seem to see is a hate for bankers. They call themselves anti-capitalism, but I don't see any alternative economic system being suggested by them as an alternative...

I personally think there's no need for it, just needless violence and anger. What I find funny is that there's tens of thousands of people protesting on the economic situation...instead of working...

I got quite mad at them for smashing the windows of RBS.
The majority of the violent protesters are just there for the sake of protesting - something I hate. Most of them don't have a clue.
