Resistance in a Wire - Application or Case Study.

Hey.
Im doing a piece of physics coursework for edexcel salters horners as level physics. We had to do a practical and link it to a case study. I did determining resistivity. My experiment was measuring current and p.d.
My teacher said about how it could be linked to wire creep, apparently it is used to see if ground is moving, as the resistance changes as the wire gets longer.
Does anyone know anything about this, or any links?
Or any other case study or application of physics i could link my experiment too. Any links for anything would be appreciated.
