Headstones

I didnt want the happy Christmas messages to become a discussion of
headstones but I was interested.

What would your epitaph be? My valetudinarian aunt wanted "I told them I
was ill". Blunkett and Woodhead are likely to have "Dance Hall" I might
go for: "Just because I am dead don't think I can't see what you are up
to, Gavin!"

Mine? Don't say 'I done', say 'I did' or 'I have done'. One potato, two
potatoes, the apostrophe is not necessary as you are not indicating that
something belongs to the potato. Finally, 'What a waste of a lifetime, I
wanted to be a millionaire, but nobody could show me how'. Chris

I have informed my spouse that his will be "Yeah, right.", after which
he has an uncontrollable urge to use the expression which only
reinforces my decision with anyone around! It's become a family joke; so
no, I don't think this threat ill-timed either! Spouse suggests that
mine should be "Short on stature, but never short on ideas" I was
inclining toward "I was never bored"...I'm always telling students that
only boring people can be. :-) Looking forward to the rest of the
cemetery checking in! Did I mention I used to write obituaries for a
living? Cheers, Amy

Avoiding (nearly) the temptation to mention giving up dead end jobs, you
used to write obituaries for a living what exactly ?

Mine would be "She had eyes in the back of 'er 'ead..."

Oh dear, my U.S.-eeze has crept in! "for a living"...meaning as a means
to support oneself economically. Love the "dead end jobs" line!
Actually, some years later, I returned to the paper as a "librarian",
meaning I'd moved from dealing with dead people, to dealing with dead
news--the librarian runs the morgue...and anyway, when you work for
editors who only come out at night, there actually is a question
regarding "a living what"!!

Bet you were the only one on the paper who got to write nice things
about people.

Too true! It's a little tricky as that's the one page where you
realllllllllly don't want to make an error! Also, lots of fascinating
people you're sorry you missed...Then there was the fellow who died
leaving behind three wives and no one knew at the time the obit was
published which was actually the one legally recognized wife...talk
about careful writing!
