Post Communication & Media Studies - Offer Query

Hello Lufbrian's!

I have a small query about the offer I have from Loughborough that perhaps some current students could answer.

I should provide some background info which will help with answering:

AS Grades
AAAB

A2 Predictions
AAA

I applied for Communication and Media Studies via UCAS and got an ABB offer - the typical Loughborough offer from what I gather.

I was checking out some info today on their website, filling in details of our choices to pass on to the careers dept, and I noticed on the course webpage it said the following:

Typical Offer
A Level Qualifications
ABB from either three A Levels or AB at A Level, plus BB in two different subjects at AS Level (these can include General Studies at either A or AS Level).

From my understanding, the website is stating that the course is accessible by obtaining an AB at A Level this summer, but I must also have at least 2 B grades at AS Level in order to get in using these grades.

It is however worth reiterating that MY OFFER which was sent to my in the post and via UCAS stipulated I required grades ABB and did not offer alternatives for me to achieve.

Can someone either verify or dispute this please?

The reason I am asking is because the January modules did not go so well (however I am resitting them). When I was at my departmental open day after recieving the offer they said the grades were "interchangeable", ie, you could get AAC and it would be the equivalent of their offer, however grades such as AAD would be grounds for them thinking about accepting you, but possibly declining you. Do they go back and look at your AS Levels if this ends up to be the case seeing as they are not operating on the UCAS points system.

Sorry for the essay and the complex explanation, but the fear is starting to really get to me that my offer might not be fulfilled.

It would be fantastic if someone could shed light on this issue.

The offer they give is what they want you to achieve. Some of the stuff on the University and university-related websites is quite out of date. Best thing to do is call the admissions tutor for your department. We can't say, we arent the admissions tutor...

Ah, glad to see someone replied!

According to the site the person in charge of the course I have applied for is Dr James Stanyer, and they provide a phone number and an email address.

I guess I should give him an email, would this be the best method of contact?

Try calling first, more direct - i think staff leave around 4/5pm. If not email, you might get an 'out of office' reply (if he's on holiday) but still, least he'll have the email and will reply when he can!

From what i can gather off some friends, they have been allowed in proving the 2 AS grades equal to the same points as the original offer, but obviously this varies from department and might have changed this year

Yea just email stanyer and he'll get back to you, he's head of CMS he'll get back to you quickly, though it's easter break so he might not get back to you until his leave is done or what ever!

the prospectus might be out of date, because I remember for my year entery for CMS it said 32 points for IB and my offer was 34! so were everyone else who did IB in my year... cms is quite a competitive course to get onto, because the intake is only 45 a year, so I wouldn't be astonished if they reject you if you don't make the offer. for my year we had 49 people, all of whom made their offers from what I gathered...

stanyer will know better though =)

Ah that's great news, for both of us!

Hey were you at the CMS open day in that lecture theatre with the red chairs, and are you female?

I remember there was a girl sitting over near the windows who asked about accommodation and she already had an unconditional offer!
