Default m4 without m3?...edexcel

quick question..

if you're taking 14 modules of maths/further maths...c1-c4/fp1-fp3/m1-m4/s1-s2/d1...edexcel will have to ignore 2 modules when they certificate the maths and further maths a levels - because there would be 2 extra..

if, for instance.. you do better in m4, than in m3...isit possible to have m4 certificated in the further maths a level..without having m3 in it?

just wondering..because the specifications says further maths can have any applied modules

Yes it is possible to do M4 without M3
You need
M1 to do any of M2-5
D1 to do D2
S1 to do any of S2-4
FP1 to do any of FP2-3
All modules other than the first are seperate; because the first unit is a prerequisite
However, unless your doing additional further maths; I wouldn't bother doing those extra two units; waste of time

i know that u need to know m1 in order to do m2-5..i was just wondering if edexcel can miss out m3 while certificating..if m3 is the lowest out of the 14 modules

so could I have fp1 fp2 fp3 s2 m2 m4 in my FM a level for example?

Well, yes you can.
Can I make a note that if you are going to take up all 14 modules, I advise taking up one more unit to make additional further maths AS (such as D1?)
That way, you have more flexibility to shift around poor results to the additional and good results to the further; if necessary.
And it is another qualification you can celebrate; it never hurt to have more.

are you 100% sure?

at the moment i've done..c1-4/m1-2/s1-s2/d1

i took d1/s2 outside school in january, because my school didn't offer it - and i wanted to have a backup..because we're doing hard modules at school

at school i'm doing fp2 fp3 m3 m4 in summer

if you take into account that i've done 2 extra modules outside school in jan..could i just not revise m3/m4 at all...and instead just revise fp2/fp3..and still get an A?

if i were to get U's in m3/m4...would edexcel just ignore them?

They take the highest score; so it would override the E I think.

Yes. Only your best 6 Modules are taken into account.

Your 2 worst possible modules will be used in normal Maths such that you still get an A Grade.

Then your best 4 Modules are used for your Further Maths giving you the best possible chance of getting an A in that.

The only Modules you must have for FM are FP1 and one of FP2/FP3.

Now stop worrying.

Yeah, I think M4 is alot more tangible, but I can't say from personal experience.

Then why did you even bother posting? I mean...surely it would be more feasible to state this if you were doing M4... =]

For Edexcel, no. You can do one of FP2/FP3 along with FP1.

thanks..just wanted to clear that up

i just can't be bothered to learn m3/m4 seeing as i've dun 2 extra modules- i need 124 marks in 2 more modules to get an A in further maths...so i would prefer just revising fp2 and fp3 and not spending time on m3/m4 and instead revise other subjects...mechanics is haard

Too right, I always preferred Pure maths to mechanics; even though i do both.
