Evangelista on Swinburne, Arthur Symons and Michael Field. I haven't read much by Michael Field, but I kind of want to study him/them simply because he/they were an incestuous lesbian couple who worshipped Dionysus and converted to Catholicism after the death of their dog. Fascinating.
Hope you're feeling better, by the way. I should be doing some work now, but the main light in my room has gone out, and working in semi-darkness isn't much fun.

Having a rubbish day...given up on work as I can't find half the books, still have no voice and the stupid applications for this summer are really annoying me. Gah. Think I might just go to bed

Aww. I decided about this time in my first year that anything that looked like it required a Lagrangean was not worth doing. Now, I'm stuck in a special circle of hell in which social democracy is all the books talk about .

Depending on what books you're after, I might be able to help... not that I have masses with me this year.

Oh dear. Just got an e-mail about a subject dinner, which was theoretically e-mailed to all of the PPEists, only to find that one of my college children was completely ignored! I know he's a little unpopular but God, that's just harsh!

That was well-deserved though. I was like "wtf" when I read it and had to reread it to make sure I wasn't just being thick
I tried to be organised over the weekend and do a good amount of work and for once achieved this. Fat lot of good it did me. Here I am, up late doing work for two tutes tomorrow with nothing but Beethoven and prawn crackers for company

Prawn Crackers?! If only you didn't live in Beaumont Street (?) I would be over there to keep you company/definitely work . I could offer to trade you Ben and Jerry's for prawn crackers? But unfortunately, this is a moot point, because I am down Cowley, and I refuse to walk anywhere except my bathroom (my fridge is next to me, and I can wheel my chair to the food cupboard ).
Stupid social democratic parties. And a book that for 300 pages just talks about Marx. I don't care. Instead, I have printed of a roughly similar (read: shorter, by same guy, and who gives a crap anyway) article that I can highlight rather than make notes on.

Okay, I know this is a really stupid question, so I'm going to blame my current illness. But yes.
You know the smoke/steam stuff that comes out of a toastie maker when it's cooking? Is it smoke, or just steam? My fire alarm is really sensitive, but I've heard of other people making toasties in their rooms and I want to know whether it's just that I've got a rubbish cheap one that's smoking. (Every time it starts doing it I turn it off and wave it out the window...)

Depends what you've put in it? If it's cheese (esp cheap cheese), I'm going with steam. BUT (that's a big but ) steam sets off the smoke alarms in my college all the time, hence the note on my bathroom door ordering us to keep the door closed and the fan on whilst showering. So keep your sandwich toaster by the window!

People would otherwise shower with the door open?!

Yeah, cheese and pesto (mmm), or sometimes just bread on its own. Kettles in our rooms don't set off the smoke alarms, so I'm hoping it'll be fine, then...
(The first time I used it the fire alarm went off, but it turned out it was for completely different reasons. That was scary, though. XP)

Are you allowed a toastie? We were told that it's university-wide policy that no toasters are allowed in rooms after there were so many fires caused by drunk people and toasters.

Ah but a toastmaker is different because it doesn't have an exposed element, so it can't cause a fire unless you damage it pretty badly
I am seriously procrastinating today. Impressive baring in mind i'm skiving off lab work to do my presentation for this seminar!
