I went to the Ashmolean reopening today. It looked very nice, but there were a lot of pieces and labels missing from some of the galleries, so I'm slightly disappointed. It'll be very good once they complete everything though.
However, the worst thing about it all was this: in the toilets, there was a sign which had the word 'cubical' on it!

All gone
For the record, she wasn't just randomly dressed like that - it was Words Words Words (the play about the three chimps trying to type Hamlet by David Ives) so she's being one of those chimps-in-human-clothing... Hence, also, being on all fours.

i just spent 5 hours baking instead of working and then it turns out the cupcake cases i bought were rubbish and burnt and stuck to the bottoms of the otherwise lovely cupcakes, making them practically impossible to eat. arrgh.

Why is that something terrible? Not that the sign's a good thing, but random to care!

In a drunken moment, Ive agreed to enter a "Come Dine With Me" type competition, despite the fact that my sole method of cooking is the microwave, and I have never cooked anything more advanced than a microwave ready meal.

HELP
Learn to cook! If I can do it, you definitely can - just do some kind of light soup (I don't normally cook soup, so I can't recommend anything - chicken soup might work well?), a tagliatelle carbonara with salad, and a white chocolate fondue to finish (literally just melt some Green & Black's white chocolate, mix in cream, and serve with sliced fruit/strawberries/marshmallows - easy but impressive) and join it with a decent white wine. They're all simple recipes to learn, tough to do wrong, and while you probably won't win you're not going to embarrass yourself.

Actually, rather than a soup, http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Antipas...rs/Detail.aspx looks like an interesting recipe, and it's not hard - you put everything in a bowl for 20 minutes, then put it all on a stick. I might make it myself when I have kitchen access again.
In other news, Washington DC was amazing, I love American Deaf culture, and I finally bought a new camera, so yay.

One thing I've realise: you can always get more geeky. It's getting close to 5am and I'm discussing old computers games with fellow House of Commons people in the shoutbox (which reminds me, TSR General Election is happening now ) (it's a shame that that's the highlight of my day). Now I have spare time only at the weekends, and then not that often, and I spend it like this, I make myself wonder.
I had a minor argh! moment when I hit 10,000, but then I realised Helen had over 20,000 and I didn't feel so bad. There's always someone geekier
And hi/*poke*. I haven't popped in in ages and was 'crasting

The Ashmolean is a department of Oxford University and a world-famous museum, so to be honest I expect them not to have silly errors like that. Plus, as a Classicist, I get a little too annoyed by grammatical and spelling errors.
