    Lieing on PwC internship form?
    Hi,

I lied about my first year module grades on the online form.

What is my chance of getting caught? If I get caught what will happen, how does the system work?

Finally, do not preach to me. I don't feel bad and have no problems with it, just getting caught.

My boyfriend is currently learning about the disciplinary actions for accountants - apparently they have all sorts of bodies for it. Being dishonest is not going to go down well. You will probably lose your place should you get one, and be blacklisted.
Accountancy stuff aside - its also gaining a pecuniary advantage which is an offence under criminal law.

Umm thanks... Not that interested in what will happen if I get caught, more like what is the chance of getting caught.

Do you know how they vet it? I am unlikely to become an accountant but want an internship for the summer.

You have to give an academic reference. No doubt they'll talk to your reference and they'll confirm a few details, or apparently not in your case.

I'll ask my boyfriend if he calls soon enough tonight.
If you want to do law, its a bad idea too, btw.

Interesting... something I am actually considering doing after uni. However from a quick google I am lead to believe they merely take your offer back, and then black list you forever. No biggy, but if it has bigger consequences... well I aint going to any interview lol.

Umm can I not ask my tutor to keep quite about them? Will they ask her specifically, can she not just give my predicted grade?

Do not be rediculous. There is a vast difference between me saying "can you not mention my first year grades if at all possible, as im terribly embaressed about them - and im doing lot better this year" and "heres what I want you to say".

If you are only going to be silly, please go away and let others answer the question I actually asked!

You're lying about your grades on a job application. Why would anyone here want to help you get internships that they want too but they're honest?

They ask for your first year marks, not predicted marks. If they ask your tutor to confirm them the tutor your screwed and I bet your tutor won't be happy.

In my original post I made it clear I did not wished to be told off. I accept what I am doing it not morally acceptable, but it's a line I am willing to cross if in the long run it gets me where I want to go.

Secondly, please tell me where I ever asked anyone to help me get an internship? I merely asked if anyone had any knowledge on PwC's vetting procedure. How on earth is that going to help me? It is merely explaining if I am likely to get caught.

I realise what they ask for. However do you realise how many companied do not bother checking these things? I am merely asking if PwC is one of them.

Finally, I asked a few questions in my OP. You have answered none of them, you merely try and be provocative towards me. I am sorry if you find what I am doing distasteful. However live and let live and realise people play the game in different ways, we dont all have to be the same.

No one will tell you the chance of you getting caught because either no one knows for definite or they don't want to ease your conscience.

As I said, they check your references.

This. They'll also check things if they look odd, apparently - like good a-levels and poor degree results, or the other way round.

Have you considered, as ttx points out, that, on a student website with a section on accountancy and applications etc., there is likely to be people on the lookout for this sort of thing.

If what ttx says is true, you're already screwed for broadcasting what you've just done or are planning doing :p:

Ppl who say you will be blacklisted forever are just exaggerating and trying to scare you imo...however its well known pwc's vetting process is the most thorough out of the big4 and you WILL get caught as they check module marks, my friend missed out a few gcse's as he couldnt remember the grades and they picked up on this but luckily it was a low risk omission so he was ok, outrighting lying is not. When i went to the ac they said last yr they took back 30ppl's offers due to high risk lies.

I really wouldnt waste my time going through the process and getting your hopes up and in fact if youd just put 2.2 down with 2.1 prediction reference, you would still have got an interview.
Yep we were told this too!:yep:

If it helps I work for PwC and one my my friends put all his grades down correctly but simply omitted general studies AS level from his application. He got an alright grade, but even so, after they gave him the offer they summoned him to a meeting with a HR recruiter and a manager and he had to give an account of why he had not been wholly truthful on his application. He still got the job but had to dig himself out of a hole as honesty and integrity are major parts of the job, particularly auditing. They take this stuff pretty seriously and they will find out as what ever checks they seem to do they are pretty extensive.

Just out of interest, how come you want a summer internship at PWC if you aren't interested in that sector for your future career plans? I would suggest that if you can't keep up with your work at uni, as evidenced by your 'embarrassing' grades, you'll find it very hard to survive a proper job. I'm not judging you particularly, just wondering what the point of lying is.

Also, what do you mean by worse consequences than being fired and blacklisted? Are you asking if you're going to get arrested or deported lol?

Because I want to earn some money in the summer, and I also think the experience of working in that sort of environment would do me good and further more look good on my cv. Sort of like I can prove I have researched stuff.

Finally it is not that I could not keep up, I fell the for the idea that first year did not count. I slept around, got drunk most night, never turned up for lectures and often failed to hand in coursework etc... This was not due to lack of ability, but rather lack of effort.

However this year when I have been trying I have done much better. Indeed I am averaging 93% at the moment. If i continue as I am, I shall breeze a first. So to my mind why should my first year even count?

    Step 6: pass our checks
Once you accept an offer, our Pre Employment Vetting Team will verify the academic and employment history you outlined on your application. This makes it absolutely essential that you complete your form accurately and truthfully, including all module marks, dates and grades achieved. All of the information you provide will be checked rigorously (although checks won't be made against social networking sites).
    Good luck....

You do realise there are a lot of people on here who really want to get internships for big companies like PwC - people who depend on something like it for their future. I'd withdraw your application if you can, you're bound to get found out...
