Post Statistics degree, a wise choice to study?

Statistics is easy for me, I got an easy A for my S1 module.

However, I am looking in UCAS extra and want to study pure statistics for a degree.

At uni would I find it a whole new level of work? Could it be a big jump from something like S1? I haven't even done F. Maths so I haven't even done S2, S3, ... modules, does this put me in a bad position?
Need advice.

If you're Adrian Veidt, people should probably be paying to study you.

Unless they say that you need to do S2 and S3 I doubt they expect you to have done them...I think most of them assume you haven't done statistics so they start from the beginning, but can't you check their websites...?

hey my mum did a stats degree at uni and she says its easy in the first year just because no previous knowledge is assumed but as you get into honours it does become much harder.i think if your good at maths then youll definitely be good at statistics because afterall stats is just a specialised branch of maths.
i definitely think you should go for it though, the degree opens lots of doors for you

I'd be careful if I was you. S1 isn't completely representative of what studying stats at uni is like. S1 is full off "plug and chug" methods like the regression line and normal distribution etc.

I didn't do further maths myself, but from what I've heard S2 and S3 are quite different and involve more proof and derivation. I'd check out the specification (Edexcel below) or ask a further mathematician for info:
http://www.edexcel.com/quals/gce/gce...s/default.aspx

Lastly if you enjoy S1 I'm sure you enjoy pure maths to a certain extent as well. A pure Statistics degree is quite narrow, so if you want more choice when you graduate you could apply for a Maths degree and simply specialise in Stats later on in your course.

That's my advice

University maths is much more difficult than A level maths (depending where you go of course). I wouldn't trust a good grade in S1 as a good indicator of success in a stats degree.

I agree competely. Not that I did Maths at uni or everything. When I read the 'I got an A in S1' bit, my immediate reaction was "didn't we all?" It was quite simple. But I think that you should go for it if that's your passion. Lots of industries need statisticians!
