Default Trying to understand how the collegiate system works

Hi,

I was looking at the Engineering course in Christ Church and the prospectus said that CC accepts about six engineering students. That's a very small number, but it's understandable considering the number of Oxford colleges.

What I don't understand is where we would attend lectures. Would I only go to lectures/classes within my college with the six other students (seems a little bizarre)? Would my classes be located within my college?

Could someone explain how the system works, or otherwise locate me to a source that explains this?

Thanks

Lectures are centrally organised and you will have lectures organised by the university with everyone in your year, either in the engineering faculty or in some lecture theatre in a lecture block somewhere. Tutorials will be organised by your college and will probably be in your college, but it's not at all uncommon for them to be elsewhere. I don't know what "classes" are in terms of engineering, or even if they exist, but they sound like they're centrally organised - certainly they are for things like modern languages.

Lectures are central and not usually college based. You would usually but not always have tutorials / supervision within your college but your faculty will have facilities elsewhere for lectures and practical work. The department of engineering science has some useful info here

lectures are in the department, so college wide. Tutes (like classes, but then with 2 or 3 people) are with the others in your college.
