Default Another accommodation question(ssss)

Hey - I'm going to Leeds this Sept. I've been to uni this year already but quit because the course was awful ( I was at Sussex) so I know what I want out of accommodation this time too.
I've narrowed it down to 5 halls and have written up what I perceive to be good/bad points (i'm super organised.. yeah geeky!)

Just want to ask if anyone has any feedback on it.. especially about opal 3 and tannery as I know nothing about them apart from the photos on the unite site. Also whether they would perhaps have less inter-hall interaction as they havn't always been part of Leeds uni. I like the idea of funny hall traditions or hall competitions...?

Montague burton
Good:
• Price
• Location – 10 mins from uni, 10 mins from town
Bad:
• No ensuite
• only one with no common room
• only one with no living area

Leodis
Good:
• En suite
• Good kitchen

Bad
• Smallish rooms
• On a council estate/industrial estate (my friend who lives in leeds said this)..have read it's dangerous & lots of people have been mugged

JBP
Good:
• Location – near headingly and uni
• En suite
• Large rooms
• living area/common room
Bad:
• Price
• difficult to ride to uni (is it up a big hill?)
• Location – furthest one from town

Tannery
Good:
• Same specs as JBP
• Might be cheaper than JBP
• Closer to uni and town than JBP
Bad:
• Probably full of medics and dentist students
• Not part of university properly..may not have traditions?
  • Not near headingly

Opal 3
Good:
• Really nice flats inside
• Right near uni and town
• Free gym
Bad:
• Price
• Not part of uni..traditions/meeting people from other halls?

So yeah just wondering what you think? Is it better to be closer to town or headingly? How much do people spend time there? Is the lack of living space in MB an issue because we didn't have it in my halls in Sussex and it ruined the social aspect of it.

thanks!

James Baillie isn't up a big hill at all! Its about half an hour walk from town centre and 20 minutes from uni so not too bad. However the rooms arent that big to be honest unless they give you a disabled room (which they did to me and didn't bother telling me before i actually got here) but then they make you pay £200 extra

My personal view is that Headingley is the best place to be as a first year, its a great place to settle into Leeds, loads to do socially, shops and things on your doorstep. Its easy to get from Headingley into town if you have a bus pass, its about 10 min or so to uni then another 5 into town on the bus, its just a straight road.

Headingley gives you more options socially, because if you want to go out in the week to bars and pubs or to cafes and have something to eat etc, Headingley's great. The town centre has a few pubs as well but they are busier and rowdier, town is more for clubs and weekends.

Proximity to the Headingley Somerfield, Wilkinsons and other small shops is a big advantage in terms of the domestic arrangements, you get fed up if you rely on the big concrete Morrisons in town, its a grim boring building and has long queues.

I'm in Leodis, and I can safely tell you that the rooms are a great size. All my friends in different accommodation have much smaller rooms, and the ensuite is fantastic.

As for the council estate... walking home, it's fine, it's only if you go past Leodis away from uni towards Carr Mills that it gets dodgy. There isn't (to my knowledge) any real crime from uni to here, and the uni security people are really good Outside Carr Mills, I have friends who have been mugged, but that's mid council estate I can recommend here, it's also fantastic to meet up here, because it's not so far from town

Oh, and Monty B is not 10 mins from uni, more like 3-5, and Leodis is 5-10, and 10 only if you walk slowly.

Oh ok thanks for your input! Nice to know leodis isn't dangerous!!! although i have some moves just incase!

Do you find that the en suite fills up much of your room - i'm sure i'll see this for myself on sat but it's different when you live there. I remember my room at Sussex I thought was tiny but once I lived in it for a while it seemed to..grow.. and was enough space haha!
