Accommodation in London - Mile End
Is mile end a dodgy area? I am going to be a post-grad student at UAL in Sept and the only post-grad only accommodation they are offering is in Mile End. I haven't heard great things about the area, but if I choose one of the other halls one of the nicer areas I will likely be stuck with a bunch of freshers, which I also wouldn't like very much...so I can't decide. I am from Canada and have never even been to London let alone lived there so I really have no clue what to expect from the different areas etc. Thoughts??
Thanks!!! -
Re: Accommodation in London - Mile EndUAL = University of the Arts London, which includes Central Saint Martins, Chelsea & a couple of other art colleges. They have a subforum but noone ever responds to me in there lol.(Original post by Renal)
UAL?
Mile End has a reputation but in fairness it's no better or worse than any other area of central london that you could afford. If you're willing to pay more there's nothing to stop you renting somewhere in outer London and commuting in. -
Re: Accommodation in London - Mile End
Unless you like fried chicken...
(I'd point you in the direction of Tyyabs on Fieldgate St, La Forchetta on Bethnal Green Rd, Saffron on Brick La or the Brickhouse on Brick Laif you can afford it. Failing that it's easy to get to West India Quay, Barbican or London Bridge/Soutwark all of which have some fantastic restaurants) -
Re: Accommodation in London - Mile End
also on an unrelated note most of the UAL halls (even the ones in East London) are around 135 pounds per week for a single room....this seems like a lot?!! What are people at other Unis paying?? Should I just forget the whole thing and look for private accommodation?

Re: Accommodation in London - Mile EndMaybe find some people online who are moving to London and team up with them - definitely go private if £135/week will be a struggle. I pay less than £80 and live in E14 (nr. Canary Wharf) - which is a little further south than Mile End. You should be able to find accom for ~£90-100/week on www.gumtree.com if all you need is a single room which is spacious.(Original post by kittensmittens)

Re: Accommodation in London - Mile EndWould the 90-100 include utilities? Also what is the likely-hood of finding a furnished place for this price...my course is only a year and I really don't want to go through the hassle of having to furnish an apartment for just 1 year...(Original post by xps.systems)

I could probably afford the 135 if need be...but I just don't feel like I'm getting a good deal. -
Re: Accommodation in London - Mile EndRead this. I know it's for QMUL students, but it's really applicable to anyone living in the Mile End area.(Original post by kittensmittens)
