Default how hard is University life for someone with Social Anxiety

I have social anxiety and I hated college as a result. In the end I ended up with CCC not the AAA I could have had if I hadn't of missed 8 weeks of my course.

My social anxiety was caused mainly by bullies.

I took a year out to try and overcome my social anxiety (I am still in this year) and I have overcome it somewhat, although not fully as I have not been around loads of people like I was at college or like I am going to be at University.

Is University probably a bad idea for me, or is it a more friendly place for someone with quite severe social anxiety? Bear in mind my social skills are pretty limited :s
