I think visiting on an Open Day and speaking to current students is the best way to determine whether you would enjoy studying in a particular university, not simply Oxford.
I agree, and I just wanted to know what the reason could potentially be in order to make sure that the decision is based on correct information. For instance the reasons you mentioned are valid reasons not to apply, whereas (unsubstantiated) rumours that Oxford is just an über-elitist place / 'all work and no play' etc. are not.

I believe (and indeed hope!) that E&M is one of the least work-intensive courses at Oxford. However, it's all relative, and I'd imagine it will still be a serious amount of work. They've also changed the course significantly for this year, so it might be worth waiting to hear what us (hopefully) future first-years have to say about the changes (except, of course, we won't know until mid-October by which time the UCAS deadline will have passed).

Hmm. I'm inclined to cambridge, but I may be applying to Oxford instead come September/October time, for maths, so please add me to the list. If colleges are going up, I think Balliol for me
Edit: I'm a bit surprised that the cambridge one has kicked off much more than the oxford one.

Maybe go to the college and Faculty open days for both and see which one you prefer?

Well I've visited, both, and Cambridge for a third time just on Saturday, which was great. I'm visiting Oxford for a second time on the coming Saturday, and I'll have a good look around everywhere and see how I feel. Perhaps this isn't the best way, but I'll be basing a bit of my choice between which, or neither, depending on my STEP I grade in August

I would dearly love to be going to the open day, but I'm attending the national final of the Young Analyst competition on those days. I'll be visiting Oxford some other time, but I'm unhappy about missing out on a look around the biochemistry building...

I can guarantee you that TLG - a Worcester student herself - is thoroughly excited by your interest in her college rather than driven to insanity by the ridiculousness of your choice.

Thats my number one at the moment, due to them saying they "seriously consider" applicants with mixed science/arts A-levels for Biochemistry. Whether that would make any difference I have no idea, though I presume different colleges have different takes on admissions.
Really? Where did you hear that? That would be very helpful for me...

It occurs to me that any prospective applicants I meet at this year's open days won't actually start until I've either left or moved over to Holywell... which is more than just a bit scary.
