Re: An 'Unfortunate accident' may have to happen to my Mum *self pity thread*My dad refuses to do that, he's a vicar and too much of a goody-two shoes(Original post by impsmith)
can you not just put down your dad's address? he'll list you as a resident on census or whatever for three years - I didn't think they actually check where you live, and you can always say you're just visiting your mum.
It scares me how angry my mum gets about it though- one of the reasons my mum won't give me any money next year is because she's stubborn about how my dad *could* help me out. Besides, when I filled in UCAS I put my mum's address down as my home one, so I'll have to do the same on the student finance one because they check they correspond.
I don't really know what to do though. I did have savings but my employers are now laying all part-time staff off, and I have applied for stuff but been rejected. Fair enough I can probably get a job at uni, but how do I guarantee that and how the hell will I be able to pay for the first few weeks!? -
Re: An 'Unfortunate accident' may have to happen to my Mum *self pity thread*Not having much money does not mean being stuck at home. Just means you have to use your head. Like not bothering with a kebab after a night out or whatever.(Original post by WhatawickedDJ)
Not for everyone it seems! I'd rather be one of the ones going out more than stuck at home. -
Re: An 'Unfortunate accident' may have to happen to my Mum *self pity thread*ah, well, that sucks. I guess all you can do is try and make up with your step-dad or get a big overdraft this year and hope you can get a job next year. Maybe you could move into your dad's for next year? it's awful to get laid off, hopefully you can live in an overdraft for the first few weeks until you can get a job. good luck(Original post by Lady Justice)

Re: An 'Unfortunate accident' may have to happen to my Mum *self pity thread*Zero pounds a week- that was my point. So a job, and a clear budgeting head, I shall have to get.(Original post by WhatawickedDJ)
As explained earlier in this thread you can still survive. How much will you have per week? -
Re: An 'Unfortunate accident' may have to happen to my Mum *self pity thread*You're used to having a lot more money because you probably haven't had to think about paying for stuff like accom or food or whatever.(Original post by WhatawickedDJ)
Yeah well I'm used to having alot more money to spend on stuff (earnt), so that's why I'm saving up. I'll get a part time job too, I like working.
Have you heard of budgeting?
Don't focus on how much you're getting so much and just make it work for you

Re: An 'Unfortunate accident' may have to happen to my Mum *self pity thread*
£55?
i only get the basic loan which is £300 short of my accomodation.
My parents income is higher than the threshold, but given 2 other children, a mortgage and the recesion, they arent going to be able to pay for everything for me.
I have some saved up, and will have to get a job. my sister managed on her own, guess i'll have to.
people who are getting grants cant complain at all -
Re: An 'Unfortunate accident' may have to happen to my Mum *self pity thread*
Am I right when I get the impression that UK families don't really save up money over many years for their children to go to university?
I don't mean any offense, it's just that parents save up for years over here (and thank god, otherwise I'd never be able to pay the international fees), so I've always been a little bit confused as to how it works in the UK

Re: An 'Unfortunate accident' may have to happen to my Mum *self pity thread*Many do, many don't. There's not a significant majority of people doing either.(Original post by nish81)
