Default A level Photography - Apertures

I know basically all there is too know about apertures, as i learnt it all at gcse photography, in my coursework ive included a brief explanation of the different effects created from different apertures

my tutor has asked me to improve it by adding in research into a photographer who has a CLEAR use of aperture experimentation (Blurred background/foreground/whole shot in focus)

so yeah i basically don't know where to start!!! all photographers experiemtn with them but who has a CLEAR use in their photgraphs!?

PLEASE help!!

if you don't know what an aperture is, the effects in the photograph are when they have a blurred back ground and stuff like that

Thanks

Sports photography contrasting with landscape photography is probably your best bet, but it's difficult to find examples of both by the same person.

Here's two by Gordan McMillan (CUFC's official photographer):

There's his website:

It depends, that is not ALL the aperture does. The aperture also controls the amount of light that enters the camera, and also need to be used alongside a knowledge of how focal depths work to get any sort of result.

I find it strange that you did all this work on aperture without having looked at any photographers. You also need to consider that 'use of aperture' can also mean having an infinite focal depth by having a very small aperture and thus having all the photo in focus. Someone who does this with landscape photography in breathtaking style is Ansel Adams.

Wikipedia is your friend. Portrait photography often has very shallow dofs, so maybe try researching that.

I never had to look at specific photographers who used it for my work, just give examples of it taken by myself.

You're welcome Nadine.

You could try adding research to groups who specialised in specific F stops, such as the F64 group (including Ansel Adams and Edward Weston)... their highly detailed images are interesting to look at and they're photographers who can easily be researched online.

Aperture alone doesn't determine the DOF of an image, you could also include research into focal lengths and show your own examples of experimentation with varying depths of field such as the blurred backgrounds (shallow depth of field, nice for macro photography) or not with a large DOF.

I am currently finishing a BTEC ND Photography course and although we have a lot of artist/photograper research to complete, the tutors always prefer us to produce our own examples (i.e. showing the varied ranges of DOF, etc) as it shows our understanding and competence.
