My girlfriend is Biochemist at Imperial and in answer to your questions:
Timetable:
Lectures 10.00 - 12.00 Monday - Friday
Practicals: 3 hours p/w (usually one 14.00 - 17.00 session)
Tutorials: 6 hours p/w (usually as two 14.00-17.00 sessions)
Course difficulty: Pretty damn hard.
Spare time: A fair amount in Autumn and Spring terms, pretty much none in Summer.
External work: 10 - 20 hours p/w.
