Thanks Powerlifter, you are a god!

I've always wondered this, so thought I'd take the chance to ask now! With HIIT should I just do a session on that, or is it alright to include weights as well? And how much cardio should a typical weightlifting session involve? Because with my sessions before, I'd do quite a bit of cardio interspersed between my weights, but maybe that's not the best way to go about it?

Bear in mind that I'm joining the army, and am coming back to fitness after being ill for the last few months, so am a lot less fit than I was, if that makes any difference?

Yes - all bow down the the God :ninja: lol

Joing the army eh, that is my speciality subject being a former Army PTI

Weights should not be doen with HIIT, if you do HIIT right you won't be able to do weights, that is the sort of intensity level we are talking of.

You can do some cardio work after weights, its not nessesarily optimal for fat loss and the weights, however if you are joining the army then you need stamina and recovery first and foremost.

Skinyfat girls are the slim/skinny girls you see with pot bellies or flabby midsections, they usually have skinny arms and legs and carry excess fat around thier midsection, just keep that in mind and go to a nightclub, there will be loads of them.
It is typical of a high sugar and fat diet (often with lots of drink) coupled with little or not vitamins and excercise.
It is a more and more common phenom with girls who diet but don't really excercise, muscles gets wasted along with some fat to reach the 'desired weight' however actual bodyfat % remains around the same so they become skinny with flabby bits - skinnyfat

Right... I think I might have to bow my head with shame and say I'm one of them... well not that I eat ****.. I eat well.. but I'm kinda untoned for a size 8... what would you recommend?

As per the origonal post, HIIT and resistance training coupled with a good diet, reduce current BF% and increase muscle mass % = healther and better looking (in terms of tone) for you.

Ah I see, I am trying to figure out if this is me! I do have slim arms and legs, but I don't have a super high fat diet and I don't drink very much. I don't diet and I do exercise, but probably not enough.
If I feel brave I might post a pic later.

I'd say a high sugar (compared to Low GI carbs) and high salt diet is a bigger contributor than a high fat diet in this circumstance imho.

Judging by the leg/arm proportions to the length of your torso you are predominantly an ectomorph bodyshape, you don't look like you have much fat or muscle to be honest (which again is characterisict of this bodytype).

You would however still benefit form the dietary advice (just for general health) and the excercise will develop some but very little muscle on you to make you appear 'more toned' if you choose too (you will never gain much muscle as A: Your a girl & B: Your an ecto macking it doubly hard)

Right, thanks for the help! What does an ectomorph shape really mean? I do have stupidly long arms/legs in comparison to my body

There are various descriptions you can ge tont he net, most disagree with each other.
Common traits of an ecto are:

Long arms and legs in proportion to body
Not able to gain fat or muscle very easily
    Narrow shoulders and hips
    Long Neck
Usualy have quite pointed features and a narrow jaw

    Celeb example: Lisa Kudrow

Ah I understand now, yes this sounds just like me, thanks! Except I have relatively wide hips etc, but generally that pretty much all makes sense. It's hard to judge sometimes how much fat etc you have on your own body.

I like the advice on this thread, but one thing that puts me off working out is I have no clue what any of Squats, Deadlifts, Overhead Pressing, Rowing, Curls, Close Pressing, pulls chins and dips are?
Is there a FAQ on here somewhere with info on how to do each?
The fitness sticky has a section on exercise form for the big lifts, there are also links to Exrx which again, has tips and videos for exercise form, plus there is also youtube.

I have added basic descriptions to the origonal post for you, sounds like you could be ecto-ecto- endo it is uncommon for someone to be an extreme of bodyshape

Thanks, I shall have a read. I'm not after losing weight or anything but I do want to stay healthy and look more 'impressive' if that makes any sense:blush:
