Imperial College Business School.. Is it that bad?

Got an offer for an MSc Management at Imperial College.
Have been looking through forums lately and it seems that ICBS is not that well regarded compared to oxbridge, LSE, Cass, Warwick, LBS etc
At 20000 pounds, its a bit pricey.:o:

Also, how good is Imperial's reputation in Asia Pacific? I'm from NZ and planning to move to Singapore when I finish. Apparently a Masters in Management is seen as a 2nd fiddler to an MBA (as it would only allow me to progress up to middle management/secure graduate employment). Would be great if any one from that part of the world like to share some thoughts?:woo:

ICBS is still v new but it is by no means not well regarded, in asia pacific ICBS LSE OX CAM is regarded in the same league closely followed by WARwick, many places in asia may not even have heard of CASS. Remember at IC you have the IMperial name to play upon which is highly regarded throughout the world, hence that is why the rejection rate at IC are high and they can still demand such high fees. Put it this way, im a student at cass and even my lecturers say cass is overated and told me ill b better off going to ICBS (ill be Studying Finance)...

as a general guidance:

LBS, 0x, Cam, LSE, > Warwick IC > CASS, york etc (obvs depends on yr course also, maybe in terms of management at icbs it may not be that highly regarded)

congrats on your acceptance, first of all.

ICBS is a very reputable school, so going there for your masters will not hurt at all. i don't necessarily agree that MSc in Management is seen as a second filddler, although i can see why people view it that way. at a time where companies are increasingly looking for specialized talents, the demand for specialized degrees will rise as well -- that's the draw. also, i believe in order to reap the full benefits of an MBA program, you need have fully experienced the professional world for many years. you can always get an MBA degree further down the line, on top of your MSc degree. Nothing wrong with that.

i'd disagree with the previous post that cass is overrated, but to each his/her own. if you're talking about the Management program, then Cass has a very powerful program. but of course, it's all subjective, and i respect everyone's input. there are many people who believe that cass may be overrated, but conversely, there are just as many people who consider it as one of the best business schools in europe. just because a lecturer said it, doesn't make it the ultimate truth.

hope that helps!

Hey! congrats
I have offers from cass and IC, i just started a new thread coz i didnt see this one, u should check it out.. its called ICBS vs. cass in Msc management. I agree with jhleung about the MBA issue, i prefer the msc program by far, and i personally believe the MBA don't teach, and let u learn form experiance, like flight simulation, before they put high company responsibilities into ur hands :p: .

evo_edd, ur post is really interesting, since u are at cass, and would consider IC, many students at either school would stay for both degrees, which is a good sign for both business schools! thenagain i have heard allot about everyone's prefrence of imperial specifically for the MSc finance, and a student there said that they are the highest paid and sought after finance students!. I accepted imperial and all, but i will always wonder what CASS would've been like, lol! however the course structure at imperial was my decision maker.. other reasons would have been, it's not THAT new: i would not have accepted to be in class of 06!! and a new course would be much better than many outdated courses out there, not in london, but the rest of the uk. and anoher important factor was the treatment i recieve throught the application process: imperial had a better application, a good website and brochure, they gave an online meeting with the course directors, and they replied much sooner, and had a more efficient admissions, and they called to discuss the offer as well! lol, im sounding like an IC employee :p:

Goodluck! hope that helps..

Congratulations !

I got in Imperial too.

First of all Imperial College Business School rides on the name of Imperial thats a rputation. Its one of the fnest uniersity in the world and you would get a Imperial degree that will be a big help.
Cass is a very good Business School and has pretyy decent master courses. But Imperial is a brand with which a few of the Universities can match.
For Business Studies Imperial and Warwick fall on same level, with WBS being more reputed as a B school , but IC scoring bg time as a university.

Hope to see u around i guess, got Imperial too so might accept it as i have already Warwick .

A quick question to you all...these are very VERY expensive degrees! How on earth are you funding yourselves? Loans? Rich parents? Savings? As far as I am aware, there isn't much funding for Business degrees, so you're pretty much on your own when it comes to raising finances...

Cass is a pretty good school with good reputation. You can try for that.

But if you manage to get into Imperial or Warwick Business School, then give Cass a rethink. Coz Imperial is a huge brand and amazing university and WBS an excellent B school

Rohan
In terms of quality/top-rated business school I'd put:
CASS
WBS
ICBS

In terms of school brand:
ICBS
WBS/CASS
CASS

From my research with employers and past students from all three unis

Not at all , Imperial des have the most tough and elaborate entry standards.
Rejection rate for Post grads at B school is abt 88% . You need marks no doubt but you need a clear definition of your career goals and a very very strong SOP.
There were 12 people whome i know applied and all were rejected expcept me. and some of htem had more GPA's than me.

So its abt overall package i say. They may be new in this field , but they sure got great standards.

Hope this help

hum I dunno. Pretty much everybody I know who applied got in. I've actually never heard of anybody getting a rejection. I think with a solid 2:1, a good statement and clear goals you're chances are decent. Schools's like LSE i'd say is more competetive. Anyways, ICBS seems like a great school (>>>cass) and anybody attending it will come out of it with invaluable knowledge and great career prospects.

thanks a lot for that

i read that cass has excellent career services so if i cant get into ICBS il def try to CASS

would a 64, good references and a solid personal statement get me into ICBS

Yep thats what ppl tend to do, if icbs dont accept then ppl often end up at cass, havent seen or heard anyone choose cass over icbs. But yeh city careers service is good, they helped me alot in terms of checking cv's getting myself ready for interviews etc, but i heard icbs careers aint bad either.

I got offer for finance my scores are roughly: 1st yr av 73, 2nd yr 75, industrial placement and 2 internships, hope that helps...

but i think it may be alot more competitive to apply now though as alot of places are likely to be filled by now..
