Default Halp I'm stack. (GCSE formulae)

Ok, when I was revising rearanging algebra I was fine. I got every question right, but then when I did the test I got nearly every question wrong. The above picture is a page from the test. Allow me to give you an example:

3)
P= T+5/T

So, you should times the right hand side by T. That would give

P+T = T+5
Then I have two problems:
No.1 - bring over either of the T's will mean that there are no T's, but according to the question I should have some left (at least one) when I'm done.

No.2 - From the way I've worked it out, no two numbers of letters times together, which means that there's no way I could turn the answer back into a fraction.

Thanks for any help.

p multiplied by t is pt, not p + t. So you have pt = t+5. Then t(p-1) = 5. Therefore, t = 5/(p-1)

Hmm doesn't look as if you can factorise coz you would get t(p-t)

You have to times both 'sides' by t, not just pick and choose, so it's essentially going from P=t+5/t to t(P)=t(t+5/t) which then simplifies to Pt=t^2 +5
However, not really sure where to go from there

t(t + 5/t) is t + 5, not t^2 + 5.

Well, the OP was presumably sloppy.

Given what OP actually posted 99ScottD99 was right but you wouldn't get that in a GCSE rearranging question.

However the image shows P=\frac{T+5}{T}

Why can't people use Latex? They all say "I don't know Latex" or "I can't do Latex". You can learn.

Sorry about the rant.

Anyway

P=\frac{T+5}{T}

Multpily by T

PT=T+5

Subtract T

PT-T=5

Factorise

T(P-1)=5

Divide by P-1

T=\frac{5}{P-1}

The thread seemed to have become confused so we thought a full solution would be OK.
