OK thanks for the reply.

Just to clarify, say a piece of plant tissue is placed in a concentrated sugar / salt solution.

The water leaves the plant cells due to osmosis etc. etc. and the plant cells become plasmolysed.

There is now a 'space' between the cell wall and membrane which previously didn't exist... what is it?!

in this instance, the 'space' is filled with the concentrated sugar/salt solution as the cell wall is permeable.
