If the BNP were voted in, it would mean a large proportion of people had voted for them. I'm curious to know why, in the event of this happening, the OP thinks his/her views are more important than that of the rest of the population.

Omg best paradox EVER

TSR needs to end its obsession with the BNP. It's the only place I even hear about them anymore.

It's quite likely, since very few give a toss about MEPs. With a strong anti-EU stance they'll only serve to be a complete pain in the arse if successful.

I'm actually slightly looking forward to see how awkward they make themselves without getting booted out or something. Or punched in the face.

It came up in one of my politics tutorials quite a few months ago, so it's not particularly hot off the press and I wouldn't say it's unsubstantiated either. It's certainly worth reporting.

I need to watch it, really, but my point was that I find reports about what might happen (and the possible implications of that) deeply irritating.

oh well. That can only be a good thing...

Plus it'd be fun to watch..

Oh, sorry for the double post BUT:

Membership from the BNP is banned by some companys/services etc, like the police, so i guess that you could say that we are on the road to banning them already..

Well, i'm not a british but I think that parties and organization that promote social hatred, racism and violence (indirect though) are usually banned in most countries but yes, in some extent I agree with the factor that banning them will make their fans worship them more.

Maybe the above poster should think banning democracy is wrong for reasons other than "their fans would worship them more" and consider the more frightening repercussions of such a system.
Reply 54
lol.

The only reason that we are seeing an increase in BNP support is for their one or two policies that the major parties just aren't seen to be doing enough about - like imigration.

They aren't going to win the next general election, nor are they going to go away.

let them run around northern council estates, getting their funding from pub whip arounds....

Seconded.

Anyway, I'd be interested if anyone could provide a reasonable explanation as to why they should be banned. That doesn't mean just stating 'they're racist'.

No. I dont like their message but im glad we live in a country where they are not censored. They have a right to their opinion, however distastful and wrong i find it.

Same here, Im happy for people to have their own opinions and think it widens societies beliefs.
The worrying thing to me is that they are making such and impact on society,
No. Parties like the BNP thrive when there is an unpopular goverment and when there is a poor economic climate. The reason for there being some increase in the BNP's popularity is entirely the fault of the Labour party who have betrayed the working classes. The working classes felt the Labour party was their party but sadly they know now it isn't.

The BNP go into these deprived rotten boroughs and listen to these people and in some cases have helped local communities with local issues. The BNP is a mix of racist, authoratarian and socialist beliefs, don't get me wrong. They just have a leader who isn't stupid like say the one eyed jock and they are exploiting peoples unhappiness. . Labour have also flooded this country with people with gay abandon legal immigrants and illegal and then when they finally decide to be tough on people coming to live here.. who do they pick ? the Gurkhas.... A decision that caused uproar. When they let in criminals and naer do wells from countries all over the world for years.....

Believe me I know exactly what the BNP is and what their game is. I hate them and see them as parasites. But I also understand what the liberal left don't seem to or don't care about. Preferrring the sweep the problems they created under the carpet. Letting it ferment. We are just seeing the beginnings of the backlash. Iam not sure the torys will be much better although I can't see them being worse, but there are a large increasing amount of people who feel mainstream parties don't speak for them but the BNP will. But believe me things won't get better until issue such as race, immigration, political correctness, the economy etc are openly talked about and dealt with.

As for banning them.... well who next will we find disagreeable? I would never want to live in a country where freedom of speech was limited to what was politically acceptable. The BNP.... surely we are better than them?
Reply 58
Definitely not. Being able to form a party is a key part of a representative, liberal democracy such as the UK, and, vile as they may be, the BNP breach no law in their manifesto, vile as that may be.
They can't be banned. That would kinda defeat the point of a democracy, would it not?

If enough people vote for them, then so be it. They are then representing their voters, which make up a significant proportion.
