Question Edexcel PHY 6 Exam Tips

Hey, I'm sitting this on June 16th (eek) and I really need to do well!

I was wondering if anyone who has sat PHY6 and come out alive on the other side with a good mark could give me any tips on how to do well?

So far I know that I should spend about 5 minutes reading the passage, maybe highlighting if anything catches my eye. Then doing Section I, spending about 50 minutes on this bit, reading the passage again when needed. Then spending about 70 minutes on Section II. Does that sound like a good plan?

I'm guessing I should revise key areas of all previous units too, but which bits? As well as the new particle accelerator stuff.

Does any one have any advice? Thanks!

To be honest, I would revise everything, not just the key points, you never know what will come up.... PHY1 should be quite easy by now, PHY2 takes a little longer, and then PHY4 youre either doing this June or did in January so it should be quite fresh in your mind and then PHY5 is only half a module, so in reality its not too much to learn! All I can really say is do lots of practise papers and see how your timing works out, 2 hours should be sufficient time, with 5/10 minutes to check over or go back to bits you left out. Good luck!!

Aww the idea of revising everything again makes me dread the idea of getting up in the morning!

Well, I did PHY4 in January and am retaking this summer so that will be quite fresh in my mind; and I'm also redoing PHY1 to try and boost my points! I'll look at PHY2 again then.

Isometrix, to make my revision notes I'm using my class notes, the Nelson Thornes 'Make The Grade' revision guide (look on Amazon), past paper mark schemes and then S-cool - which isn't all relevant but I use the bits that are. Hope that helps.

Ahh well since youre retaking PHY1 and 4, youll be fine! You only really need to relearn PHY2 then (though, that was the bloody hardest module for me)
Don't be put off the fact that its a synoptic and is 120 UMS, just think that youve actually done it all before in previous papers, theyve just mixed everything up a bit :P Have you done the past papers? I did appalling in most of them, i got like Cs and Ds....but then last years paper (June 2008) seemed to be easier? I dont know whether its because I revised properly for it, or it was actually easier? Anyway, I would also recommend the Nelson Thorne books, they are endorsed by Edexcel and are really really good, as everything is clearly laid out, it makes it a good read the night before the exam.

Come on guys, surely someone must have tips? For instance; how long you should read the passage for? The structure of the paper? I (and probably many others) would really appreciate anyone's help with this, I really believe that if I do well in this paper I'm guarenteed an A in physics, that means a lot for someone who underachieved and got a C last year and was told that he'd be lucky to get a C overall.
