Default NEW BEST SELLER: Cheating & the International Baccalaureate

While many of my classmates keep their stress hormonen levels up concerning their IB results, some of my not-so-honest "friends" have decided that they can use the time zone difference in order to gain an unfair advantage. Others, choose to use their Euros in order to purchase the questions for a high but nonetheless reasonable price (given the importance of the exams).

I am personally offended by their behavior.
I resent any kind of unfair competition and I have been trying to do
something about the issue since the beginning of the phenomenon.

Any view on this subject is welcome. What would you do?
(I have been already accepted in the US, so I dont feel the excess
pressure killing my brain cells. Hence, I have two advantages: TIME and WILL.

yes yes. who are they paying for the exam? it can't be the IB itself. but if it isn't does this mean the papers are leaked somehow.. and if it IS the IB.. now that is a disturbing though. corruption within the IB. LOL.

lets just say the problem is NOT confined to Mexico.

the problem is everywhere. its just being silenced.

and the IB does not sell them as far as i know. individuals (aka teachers, coordinators) do.

I am aware about the phenomenon. I believe you should report it. It is completely unfair and i cannot understand how people can ignore something like that.In Greece students also payed for the IB Papers-especially for maths

If you actually have teachers/ an ib coordinator who sells them, you should report them and get them fired. Seriously, report it immediately.

why would they? They get their 7's and shut up..... As long as a few schools do it, it may not affect the grade boundaries. I know it is not fair but as we all know LIFE IS NOT FAIR ITSELF! WHAT CAN WE DO BUT COMPLAIN

This makes me so angry. Report it to the IBO or talk to some teacher in school about it (that doesn't distribute these papers). Stuff like this definitely need to be sorted out! So unfair towards hardworking students who still get screwed over by exams like 09 math *shakes head*

where is this world goooiiinnnggg???!!! facccc

Well students with a 32/42 prediction suddenly finished math in 30 minutes.
And they were boasting about how excellent they did. And after finishing the test, they started re-writing the questions in order to show that they were actually doing something.

LETS SAY ITS MORE OBVIOUS THAN OBVIOUS

I can see why you're a bit confused, especially if you're used to being better than these people. But just because YOU don't think they're good enough to have found the paper easy doesn't mean they hadn't realised they weren't so good at maths, and studied lots for it over Easter (possibly at the cost of other subjects). Also, the list of topics for maths is easily available. It's not exactly difficult to get the list of everything and work through it so that you know you can answer any question which comes up. The questions aren't on any random bit of maths. Anyone who works hard enough for it could have found the paper easy.

The school the does IB where i live math's results have all been significatly lower since basically the whole maths department from another school took over their department and refuse to accept bribes from parents for cheating and doing work for the pupils. The year before they began working there someone got full marks.. :/ corruption in IB is rife i feel.

Thats a very reasonable thought. However:

1) these people never understood math
2) and never studied for it
3) during the study month they were partying while the rest of us were
watching dead brain cells flaking off their heads
4) the problem was NOT confined at math

and the worst thing is that these guys are never gonna get caught.
the IB knows whats happening. however they insist sending the questions
weeks ago (in my school they arrived one month ago)

i am a pretty good student and i didnt do well at standard level math paper 1
watching other students who have never even tried at understanding math taking better grades than me is very disturbing.

we live in a dishonest world.
but saying that we do live in a dishonest world
and not doing something to fix it its as if we are approving all that happens.

Just as a reminder:

The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing - Albert Einstein

I think you come across as quite judgey here. It's a shame you didn't do well, and obviously you'll feel annoyed about not doing as well as you think you should have. But as far as I can see you have no evidence that these people cheated, they just found it easier than you did. You might think they're stupid and don't listen or whatever, but you don't know for sure that they didn't listen, or get a tutor or something. This is quite a serious accusation you're making and it comes across as bitterness on your part more than supicious circumstances on theirs. Obviously if you have PROOF that they read the papers before, you should go to the IB HQ with it, and your local papers because the school / pupils should not be allowed to gain prestige through cheating.
The IB need to send the papers out in advance incase any get lost and they have to send replacements. Imagin how annoyed you'd be if your paper wasn't there for your exam so you had to wait a year to take it again.
