As far as I can tell, you would have to take an LLM on top of your GDL and LPC in order to qualify to sit the NY bar.

You have to have 3 years of Law school before you are eligible - so GDL students can't do it (unless as Naelse says you have a masters)

But guys, before you waste your time and money:

Contrary to the numerous threads springing up, doing this will not qualify you in this country. Technically if you have the qualification, and do 2 years legal work in 3 areas of law (ie a training contract or something else approved such as paralegaling IF you could even get that!), you can sit the QLTT and become a solicitor IF the law society approves. (In exactly the same way that BVC graduates could).

Unfortunately ts not a qualification that will get an untrained lawyer anywhere far in England and Wales without English qualifications.

On top of this if you are UK unless you got a transfer from the UK the US department of immigration do not give out visas unless you are heavily supported by your employer. Even then there is no guarantee. Even with some visas (J1) if you marry a US citizen you are still not classed as this.

Thanks for the responses

What are the odds of having an international career after qualifying in the UK? Particularly in Canada and the USA?

Thanks
