The Half Life franchise. Not even one of the best games of all time, I would say that they are unquestionably the best games of all time (at least for the PC, I never really did much console stuff).

You hear Beyonce, and Kanye? Gabe Newell created one of the best video games of all time!

Ah this all brings back so many gaming memories! It's difficult to choose the best games of all time because most games have some flaw which makes them fall short of the mark. However my list is as follows!

Pokemon R/B/Y (Classics, practically define childhood)
Half Life (Fantastic game with a great environment)
Timesplitters FP (Greatest offline multiplayer experience, i still play it)
Metal Arms (Gamecube game, was a great story with awesome robots)
Team Fortress 2 (Best FPS there is, just so much fun and no seriousness)
Gears of War 3 (The designers of this game deserve medals and more)

    Metal Gear Solid 1,3,4
The amazing storytelling that these games have is unmatched and will probably never be met by another game, at least not for a long time. Solid Snake is probably the best character I have had the chance to play as and the last gameplay sequence of MGS4 is simply outstanding.
    Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
This is just one of those games that can literally be spent playing for weeks and you can never become bored with it, They got everything right with this game and lets hope that they do the same with GTA5.
    Resident Evil 2 & 3
These two games are simply great for what they did for the rest of gaming, these two got everything right in terms of gameplay, voice acting, boss battles and everything else and all on the Playstation 1!!!

Max Payne 1 (2,3 cant come near this badboy)
You're right. Max Payne 2 doesn't do bad but it doesn't compare to part 1's nightmarish opening , its dream sequences and the whole corniness of the first game's comic book scenes actually works better in creating an off-kilter atmosphere than the seriousness of part 2's. Part 2 has the funhouse and a interesting section around Baseball Boy but part 1 has the restaurant and just feels like a far more grimy and lonely game which is what the series is supposed to be about.

For some reason today I ended up thinking about old video games (and now want to buy a PSX and fish for old games :P: )

Ones I can remember which where particularly great where:

*Metal Gear Solid 1 (Innovative, fantastic immersive story)
*Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 10 (Same as above, very artistic, as with all FF games)

    Any you really like?

+ Rep simply for saying MGS

    BEST.GAME.EVER. I think you could say I'm a huge fangirl :P

Story wise, metal gear solid series.

Gameplay/online, cod4. All these **** new MW and black ops games are still living off the hype.

God of war series, San Andrea's and battle for middle earth get mentions too.

All the games in this post are awesome,

Needless to say I loved all games in the MGS series (major obsession here)
I also loved Tomb Raider series up to TR3, and loved Anniversary as it was a remake of the first one with better graphics. I know it is not considered that great a game and controls could be awful, but I loved it, especially the puzzle elements of it, it actually made you use your brain.

Medal of Honor was amazing, so was the first Max Payne (the sideways run ).

Metal Gear Solid 4 was among my favouritist [new word, trademarked by me]. It was the epicist game i've ever played [new word, also trademarked by me].....I've never even played MGS1/2/3 :p:

For old games, I would say Crash Bandicoot properly reminds me of my childhood days.

If you liked MGS4 you HAVE to play at least 1&2, the storyline links in with MGS4 and it is the most epic storyline ever. You will gain a much deeper understanding of the new one.

MGS3 is great too but it is set way before the first two

I still don't understand 2 and 4 having played them loads of times.....

    (PS 1 > 3 > 4 > 2 )
