Does anyone know many monthly instalments the bursary is in ?
There is a double instalment when your course starts (say, September), and then from November onwards (or two months after the double instalment) it will be monthly on the third Friday of every month, until the following September, when the next year's bursary will come in.

If you are living away from home for uni, then it should be £2324. As it's non-income assessed, you don't put in any income details.

    SOO CONFUSED!!!

I know I’ve asked people already about the whole finance side of things and understand that we can apply for an NHS bursary and we can also get a maintenance loan from student finance but the highest amount we can get through that is £2400 something like that! So with the NHS bursary and student loan together we would be lucky to get about £6/7,000 which seems like a lot but once you take away accommodation costs it leaves you about £50 a week to live on! Yet people that aren't on NHS courses can get a loan at £5,500 plus apply for grants etc aswell up to an extra £3,250 which gives them so much more money to live, how is this possible? Surely us NHS students should be entitled to something more as opposed to living off £50 a week :/ Or have i missed something?!

    Help pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee!!

This has probably been asked before but what's the story for EU (non-UK) students?

People starting NHS-funded courses in 2012 can also get a £1000 grant from the NHS, which is supposed to help bridge the gap between the funding for NHS and non-NHS students.

What the NHS say is that we are worse off in the short term finance-wise, but better off the long term (less debt after graduation).

You are only eligible for the NHS paying your fees. You can't get any grants/bursaries/loans I'm afraid.

That's already including the £1000 grant from the NHS, guess it's just going to have to be a very tight budget! Thanks for the reply (:

What are you expecting the £50 budget to cover? Will utilities be included in your rent? It's not as scary as some people think, I quite easily manage on an average of £35 a week (including my monthly £20 phone contract bill). Any 'treats' are supplimented by the occasional work I do in the holidays. Sorry if I come across as patronising, I'm just trying to grasp where the financial worry is coming from.

Ah right okay, what does the £35 cover? I've got a contract that comes out monthly which is £35, then weekly would be general things like shopping, washing, nights out etc just the general i suppose :/ I think I'm just worrying because it's all new and I'm use to having my own money to do what I want, so I'm not usually limited to a certain amount, if that makes any sense!? Lol

Well I tend to work my budget out on a fortnightly basis, it generally works out something like the following:
    One big food shop: £30
Food that needs to be bought regularly (e.g. milk, salad): £8
    (1/2) phone contract: £10
Washing: £2.20 - I only use the dryer for bed sheets, clothes etc I use an airer
and then I have about £20 for sociallising, I do also have to put petrol in the car but then I only really use that for the big shop (and flatmates tend to chip in) and to drive home.

From my personal experience I prefer working on a fortnightly basis, as one week I might spend a lot on the big food shop but then I'm not restricting myself with what I can do, dependent on money, that week as I know I won't be spending that amount of money the following week.

That does make sense, I tend to be careful with my money in general but then I choose to splurge on shopping or something else, how I want, when I know I've got the money to do it. Budgeting isn't hard for me really, as long as I keep an eye on what I'm spending using both cash and card, but I know it's not as easy for others.

Do we need to have the "support an application" section filled out if we know that we're entitled to the minimum maintenance loan?

    Hi.

I need some help as I am a bit confused, so was hoping someone could give me some advice.

So, basically I am a scottish student and have just firmed YSJ for Occupational Therapy. Does anyone know what I am entiled to from NHS Bursarys ans what I am entilted to through SAAS?

I have emailed SAAS who took 3 months and told me I could get my fees paid bys NHS and when i phoned it was about as helpful

So any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Could someone give me some advice about funding please? I have applied for a graduate diploma doing adult nursing and two of these courses are in scotland, 1 is in england. I have only heard back from one uni but do i have to apply for funding now? If so how do I do this? I contacted the SAAS 2 months ago who told me the NHS would pay myy fees but I checked the deadline for applications to th SAAS and it closed on 31st March. Will I still be entitled to funding? Any advice would be appreciated.

NHS students can only get the minimum non-income assessed maintenance loan of £2324 if living away from home, so your parents don't need to support your application, as you can't be assessed from their income.

If the Scottish funding system is the same as the English one, you should be entitled to a non-income assessed student loan from SAAS and the NHS bursary and £1000 NHS grant. If the systems doin't work in the same way, I do apologise.

You can get a means tested NHS bursary and £1000 NHS grant. Your fees are automatically paid by the NHS. Assuming you already have a degree, and therefore have already had Student Finance/SAAS funding, you may not be eligible for another student loan. You will have to double check this with SF/SAAS.

You can apply online or on paper (through the NHSBSA website). Usually they send you your customer reference number in the post come May time, but as the online system has been introduced this year, that may have changed so you can apply without it now (check on the website for up to date info).
