What would you do...? Advice/suggestions

Hello!

I'm a bit confused at the minute because I know what I want do to but don't really know the best way to go about it. Was wondering if anyone with experience/a bit more knowledge could give me ANY kind of advice/suggestions as I have no family/close friends that have ever been close to going uni so they can't help :frown:

I'm about to finish my final year studying human biology (BSc), I really really really want to apply for the clinical scientist training scheme, the only problem I have is that my course doesn't have a huge biochemistry compenent (or immunology - the part I want to specialise in) so if I do get a
2:i this year (min requirement), I still might not have a very good chance of getting a place.

I could do a masters (and have found one that I really would love to do) so I have a better chance of being accepted for CS training but due to the CS closing date not being till feb, I won't know til then whether I would need to do a masters and by then I will have to start the course the year after...

Option1: Apply for clinical scientist trainee this winter, if I don't get in apply for masters the following year and end up having wasted a year.

Option2: Apply for the masters, if I get in do it, if I don't: apply for clinical scientist training and hope for the best.

Any other options?? Also I don't know how I would fund a masters yet but I'm really hopeful that I could work something out.

Any help is soooo appreciated I will add you to me 'to rep' list

Sorry, I don't know anything about your field, but could you not apply to both? That way, if you're accepted for the clinical training you can do it and, if not, you could do the MSc. If you go down that route, though, you might want to apply for several masters just in case.

I'd contact the entrance people responsible for the clinical training scheme. Tell them your situation and ask them from their previous experience, would they think you'd stand a chance at getting through without the masters.

Well I would, but you don't find out whether or not you have got a place on the training thing till next summer, so obviously I would have had to start a masters this september...

Just spoke to a friend though, she's been told that masters aren't really worth doing unless you scored 2.2 or less, or need a new direction... and hopefully I won't get a 2.2 and I am fairly convinced I don't need a new direction as such... She thinks getting experience in a lab would be much more beneficial.

Oh you can really do that? I emailed the company via their queries thing but I'm pretty sure the response was automated  Yeh ok that would be much better I just wasn't aware I could speak directly to someone :p:

I'm hoping that providing your degree is relevant and fairly high (2.1 or above as stated...) they will select people based on personal statements and all that!
