there are 15 modules in the whole year. you don't really get to choose any of them.

3 of them are chemistry and the other 12 are biology related. i don't do biological sciences so i think you guys have to take an extra foundation chemistry modules.

the chemistry modules are quite hard, more so because the teaching for them is just horrendous. if you revise a good 3 weeks before your end of year exam then you'll be ok.

all the biology modules are pretty much the same, no great level of difficulty, kind of a-level difficulty but with more detail (but not hard).

here's a list of the biology modules:

Evolution
Impact of Microbes
Molecules of Life
Cell Structure and Function
Genetics
Biotechnology
Protein Biochemistry
Research methods, analysis and ethics
Anatomy and Tissue Structure
Infection and immunity
Hormones and Development
Human Physiology
Variety of Life
life in a changing environment
biodiversity and conservation

there are 15 listed here but you only do 11 or 12 of them. i'm not sure which ones you don't do. but hey, it gives you a pretty concise idea of what you'll be doing.

as for the chemistry, you'll be doing:

Introduction to Organic Chemistry
Organic Chemistry
Physical Chemistry for Life Sciences
Spectroscopy and Bio-inorganic Chemistry

i'm not sure if you have to do 'introduction to organic chemistry', i think maybe you only have to do it if you don't have a chemistry a-level.

practicals are so much fun. you might feel slightly tense the first few practical lessons, but after say......4 weeks of the first term you'll look forward to them since the practical lessons will give you an excuse to socialise with your course mates.

i don't take biological sciences, i take biomedical sciences, but all the biology related sciences have more or less the same modules so most of your lectures will usually have around 200-300 people in, and all your lectures are in the biology lecture theatre except for chemistry, they're in cavendish or something.

you'll like the course and you'll learn an incredible amount in just one year. the amount of work though you have to revise for your end of year exams is staggering. you get quite a lot of coursework, but it's all pretty straight forward, and you have multiple choice exams every 5 weeks. they're every 5 weeks because you do 3 modules at a times and they take 5 weeks and at the end of the 5 weeks you have you're end of module multiple choice exams, oh and you get that week off. you're also given something called 'perception tests' which are done online and are assessed. you do these in your own time every week and you can retake them a bujillion times so they're pretty straight forward.

all this may sound like a lot, but give it 4-5 weeks and you'll settle down.
