Heathfield is like the belmont flats from what I've heard/seen. They're really nice inside and quite big.

I'd go with Heathfield... MUCH cheaper than the Hub, which quite frankly, I think is a rip-off.
    Thanks for the pictures
The Hub is actually about £400 cheaper than Heathfields :/ and looks much nicer from the pictures I've seen. However, I've seen neither in the flesh so it does just come down to pictures and prices.
The only thing swaying me towards Heathfield is the fact its Halls. I get first years in with me at The Hub so its not as if I'm stuck with people older than me.

I'd still say halls, since you'll be with loads more first years. Which is good for mixing. The whole block will be first years rather than just a few flats. Its also opposite the Belmont flats so its made into a nice wee freshers community. Is there a way you can visit them?

I need to tell them by tomorrow and its a 6/7 hour drive from where I live to Dundee :/
    So not really, no.
Its just annoying because I had to finalise the Hub yesterday and pay the first instalment of £1500 so there isn't much option for me to decline it now.
The Hub looked really nice though and the thing swaying me towards it is that they've been really helpful and the university haven't helped me at all. They kept telling me to ring back and then outright said there would be nothing at least until I start. I couldn't have risked coming all the way to Dundee with nowhere to live.
    Argh!

    Argh!

I know its frustrating, but you do have to see that the uni will be getting lots and lots of calls.

Its up to you were you decide.

I know but now I've paid for the other place because I would have lost it. If they said "We can let you know by the end of the week" it would have been fine. But in fact they said "Not until next Monday" it meant I made a decision. I think I can withdraw from my private accommodation but I have to decide today and I don't have a clue what Heathfield is like. Is it nice inside?
I was in Heathfield last year, loved it. The photos on the website are exactly what you'll get in Heathfield, it's right on campus and like 2 seconds away from the Union and Library. The Janitor is really fast at fixing anything that breaks down so that's a bonus too.

I would go for the cheaper accommodation I'm sure there are enough possibilities to mix with other freshers!

Right guys, really looking for as many straight answers as possible!

Moving to Dundee to do a PostGrad and have paid my first instalment at The Hub - since then, I've found some very negative things written about it online. Still maybe not too late to get out of it so as many thoughts as possible needed!

Decent place to study/live? OR Hell hole?

Do I stay or do I go?!

Dundee does get a lot of stick tbh which i dont think it deserves, personally I love it here and wouldn't have swapped my uni experience for anything - though i cant really speak for post grad.

The city itself has some interesting characters, theres certainly no getting away from that - however not really any worse than any other city... since you are in the hub though you are dead central and right next to the uni - unlikely to encounter many of the dodgy locals around there. The locals are however pretty good in the best part - apart from the odd ned shouting some incomprehensible crap.

There is a good nightlife and the two main local nightclubs, excluding the awesome union which seems to be the focal point for most student nights out in dundee, would probably be liquid and fat sams which still seem to be mainly occupied by students.

its a really picturesque city in parts and the view over the tay is awesome for a relatively small yet a city non-the-less, cheap to live in and there tends to be a really good atmosphere to the campus etc.

I understand your situation but i would really try and visit it if possible, its the only way to really get a feel for the place.

Good Luck with whatever u decide, and i hope this helps a little bit

    Sam

Hey, i've applied to do childrens nursing at Dundee. I love the uni and the city and I am still waiting for a reply. I am slightly worried about coming if i get in as i live close to Cambridge so im gonna be a good 500 miles away from home. Does Dundee get many people from England? Also how often do you all go home? x

    Hello!
I know plenty of people from England, so you won't be the only one. This semester I've been home once but last semester I went home every two weeks for driving lessons as I'm only 3 hours away by train. I knew a person from England last year who went home every weekend! So on going home, it varies from person to person really.
