What subjects should I do in IB (international Baccalaureate) if I were to do Law
Hey. So im having a lilttle trouble deciding on what subjects I should do in the International Baccalaureate if I want to do law in the future. So far I have decided on :
French ab SL
Bio SL
Maths Studies SL
English A1 HL
History HL
Psychology / Theatre HL
So I cant decide if I should swap theatre with Psychology. I really want to do theatre and I really want to do psychology as well, but I can only choose one.So what do you guys think? theathre? or psychology?
Re: What subjects should I do in IB (international Baccalaureate) if I were to do Law
Psychology, IMO. Realistically it is easier to score higher points on psychology, plus, you can do theatre as a hobby (hey - do it for creativity CAS etc). It's more of an essay subject as well.
That's just my opinion though, so feel free to choose Theatre if you so desire

You might want to post this in the IB forum instead.. But as a fellow IBer i'd say to swap it for psychology because its a science whereas theatre is an art subject and hence the science might be more appreciated for law (?) (i.e. i don't see how theatre would be useful for law..), but on the other hand i don't think it really matters that much, i mean how useful is either of them for law anyway? Ehh.. i guess you'll get better advice from someone who actually knows what they require for law

Thanks. but which one were u reffering to as ''more of an essay subject'', theatre or psychology??
and is it really easier to score in psychology rather than theatre?

I was referring to psychology, mainly because theatre is more practical; other than the fact there are no written exams, you make idealised theatre sets and explain them to your teacher, sometimes you'll analyse texts etc. But psychology, on the whole, is more essay based.
I think it was wrong of me to say it's easier to score higher though soz - what I meant was that it was easier to secure a decent grade in psych, because theatre - like art - is graded very subjectively, whereas if you put hard work in psych, you should be getting at least a 5 or 6.

I'd actually suggest philosophy - I should imagine both subjects require the same thinking skills concerning spotting/forming/countering a good arguement.

It might not be the same everywhere, but in my experience TOK wasn't particularly rigorous. Philosophy classes went much further/deeper and we would really rip an arguement apart. TOK seemed to just skim across the top.

My subjects are:
Geography/History/English HL
Maths/Physics/Polish SL
I've read somewhere that for Law you can have humane and social subjects as well as sciences and maths. It's not specific I think and you should choose the subjects which you like. E.g. in Poland you need Geography, History and English I think if you are an IB student, but I don't think it's neccessary for universities in UK

For majoring in law, colleges like it if you take Economics and/or History. As for your other subjects, one is math, two is languages, and the other is whatever you want, probably a science like Biology, Physics, or Psychology. Good Luck!
Re: What subjects should I do in IB (international Baccalaureate) if I were to do Law
Suggestion:
HL:
Philosophy, English A1, History
SL:
Methods/Studies, French, Biology
&& 7th as Theatre if you find it interesting enough?
Apparantly PSYHL is seen as a 'weak' subject and if you want to be competitive, you may wish to take another stronger social science. Personally, I agree with previous poster on Philosophy.

i didnt know that you were allowed to take a 7th subject?? but if i were to take a 7th subject , the maximum points would still be 45? or would it be 52? how does the ''7th subject work''?
Re: What subjects should I do in IB (international Baccalaureate) if I were to do Law
OK so I am an IB student who is graduating in May 2009, and I am going to do law. So I say: HL English and HL History is an absolute must! Simply because they teach to talk, write, read and analyse relly well: all the skills needed for law. Then I say don't listen to people who tell you to do maths SL unless you are really methematical as in A* level at GCSE. I was told that law is really competitive bla bla cause it is, and I did SL maths - it was a mistake cause its really reallly hard to get a 6 or a 7 in it, and people get accpeted every year with maths studies, really does not make much of a difference to unis. I would NOT take a 7th subject!! One of your subjects will not count up in the final add up and you have to choose which one beforehand... I would do psychology cause from what I know it is easier to get a good grade in , and welll Law is competitive and sadly many unis do not recognise art/theatre at HL as appropraite.... So yeah that's my personal advice.
