Default Starting sixth form again. HELP/ADVICE PLEASE.

Right am doing AS atm. Am predicted straight As. I know I wont get them, just havent put enough work in. Am thinking C/Ds. Suffered from depression about a month ago and totally lost all my motivation. Am so so disappointed with myself its untrue. Announced to my parents the other night that I am very likely to get bad grades and they were equally disappointed.

I know I could pull my finger out next year and retake some AS modules and ace A2 exams and come out with A/Bs.
HOWEVER. I want to do History/Spanish at a decent uni and all requirements range between AAA-AAB-ABB. With my likely AS grades being bad, Im assuming my A2 predictions will be **** also. Even though my teachers know Im intelligent, I would never expect them to predict me A/B if I performed badly at A2. Hence - no point applying for uni. Hence - no point carrying on with A2.

So Im thinking the best thing for me to do would be to start AS again, and do it properly this time. I would have to move colleges (will be gutted as I go to a great one atm and have totally screwed it up) and hopefully get a place somewhere :/ Then apply to uni next year with good AS grades...

So has anyone ever done the whole AS thing again? How did you find it? Another other thoughts much appreciated xxx

yep im redoing the whole AS year at the mo. however i have to say if i was in your situation i wouldnt have. before you completlely decide on doing that i would talk to your teachers about predictions/the problems you've been having? then if you do get bad grades you can just retake units and they will maybe predict you good grades still. you could always say the exams just wnet wrong aswell. they would understand that. retaking the year may look bad to some unis but if thats truly what you think you should do then you should. presonally, im retaking the year because i chose french, english, media and photography. and want to do french at uni and obviously media and photog dont look so good for that. also just genereally didnt enjoy that subject and didnt like the sixth form i was at. which unis are you looking at?

I'm in the same situation.

It depends if my resits (and first A2 units) are before or after the predictions.

My sympathies. My depression screwed up my graphics alevel, got an A for AS and then E for A2, averaged at a C and got AAC overall so wasn't as bad as you I guess.

Sounds like you're doing the right thing, you sound motivated enough though, I think you'll be fine the second time around. Also, do you have to retake ALL modules? Can't you just redo the ones you didn't do so well in?

I personally think you should resit the year. I had similar problems when i was in year 12, and got ACDDU at the end of AS. I've retaken every AS exam apart from two, and this year has been so so hard. I had loads of motivation at the beginning of this year to do well, so i think that has pushed me through. With my January retakes, i went from ACD to AAC, and then with two other chemistry re-sits, i'm hopefully going to be getting an A in the AS overall. But it's hard because i know that i only need to mess up on one A2 exam this year, and i won't meet my uni offer. Basically, having a good footing is essential.. i found it really hard not having a back-up :/
