hey! that was pretty much what i said first

True. Sorry I left you out. OP, take elziebelzie's advice too. Its top notch.:yep:

Cool. I've decided to just go with smart trousers and smart top. I don't particularly like wearing dresses anyway and I guess this post sums up why.
Thanks for your opinions.

Out of the two I'd go for the black and white. Maybe the OP can't afford to buy another dress -- she's asked for people to choose between the two, not insult her style.

OP i'd suggest something maybe like these:
http://www.warehouse.co.uk/fcp/product/fashion/Dresses/floral-splash-sash-tie-dress/12601
http://www.oasis-stores.com/fcp/product/Oasis/Occasionwear/Tropical-Flower-Print-Dress/5550014200 (this one isn't really my taste but i think it'd look lovely on you)
http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Multi-Floral-Strapless-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=485698&cid=5186&sh=0&pge=6&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Print

http://www.newlook.co.uk/1658523/165852309/ProductDetails.aspx

as it's a summer ball i'd go for something with colour (hence why i didn't say the b&w one) and something quite fun and not TOO formal. oh and DON'T wear a skirt and top! you have to wear a dress!

Colour = yes, I agree, the dresses you've posted = no! They would probably look ace on a lot of people, but tbh looking like a canary isn't my cuppa T, no offence to anyone who likes big bold floral prints.

Trousers and a top? . . .:s-smilie: fair enough!!!!

Might see what Primark has to offer but I don't fancy spending loads on a dress I'll never wear again =]

those dresses were worse than the OP's :s-smilie:

awwww OP you sure you wanna go in trousers and a top? we can help you find a new dress if you tell us what kind of thing you like

At last . . someone has posted something reasonable and not too busy to the eye!

Im not too sure if I would personally wear it, but it would look alright on the OP.

this one is lovely http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10001_102644_993703_-1 and would look really good but is quite expensive. . .

OP I saw that dress in Tesco's, and if I am totally honnest, I was tempted to buy it. But I was going to buy it to wear down to breakfast on holiday. Not to wear for a summer ball.

You could do alot better that Dress 1 for a Summer Ball dress I think. So if I had to choose, definitely the black and white one.

or.....one or similar of elziebelzie's dress that she suggested the are awesome

I love all these dresses! Except for the second one, but the others were amazing. But I think maybe the OP should go for something more classic, with just some colourful accessories. Perhaps a white dress, and some pink shoes and clutch?

Now we are talking (I have a feeling you might have a similar taste ish to mine - hate big floral hideous prints?). . . I like that dress you've posted (saw it last week in the 25% off sale). Gorg. colours.
I like the black and white one! Why would you want to be able to get it off easily?! :p:
If you don't normally wear dresses then go for a classic black dress that you re-use for other formal occasions so it'll be worth the cost?
Then since it's a summer ball you can maybe dress it up with a coloured shrug or cardigan and shoes.
