Re: M1 on friday..
my thoughts on M1 : it's easy...

the January paper was tougher than the rest - but not suicidal..as everyone said it was...
best thing to do for the exam is practice - because, that's basically all maths is...
---
oh and someone asked about the two angle hanging particle with the two strings and one tension?
well, basically, resolve both your tensions, so that you have:
string a : (Y being known tension and x angle)
Ycosx and Ysinx
string b:
Tcosx and Tsinx
sin is always opposite the angle, and cos always adjacent..
then, it's a simple up= down and solving...
{hope that actually made sense, explaining over the internet is HARD} -
Re: M1 on friday..
as long as you learn the methods M1 is easy...the Jan 09 paper wasn't hard if you actually understood mechanics rather than just learning the methods
the one thing i struggle with is....
1. force exrted on a pulley if its not like say a string hung over a tree branch where both weights are hanging vertically down -

I KNOW!! i mean how the hell r we supposed to know what to do when they could ask us to find acceleration and tension in a pulley....and at times they ask us for the weight n stuff.and other times they say its on a rough table 2.5 meters high...so what...
aye aye aye i dunno..screw m1 -
Re: M1 on friday..
I should be thankful I was taught the whole course, but it doesn't make it any easier when you don't understand random q's and you don't have time to revise ...
Arrgh!
Yes, the whole pulleys thing is the hardest I reckon...
I tried the Jan 09 paper, leaving out questions that I haven't learnt yet aka chapters 5 and 6.
I got 99% of it right, but the ones I haven't done yet look the hardest! -
Re: M1 on friday..'cause my school's evil.. we start 4:20, do unit 2 and then we're stuck in a room with a teacher with no communication with the outside world (clash conditions) for 30 minutes, and then it's unit 3..(Original post by breefree)
How on earth do you finish that late? It's only a 2h40 exam?
like I said, they're evil sadistic people running my school..
here's the solutionbank but you'll have to install it and stuff..
as for the pulleys stuff, once you know how to do it - even the force on the pulley (where you make a little triangle and resolve) - they're all the same, reallyLast edited by unamed; 20-05-2009 at 12:34.
well it seems all fair then i guess!
