I'm 17 :frown:

I'm guessing that whoever organises the meet won't be appointing a bouncer so you'll be fine.

Also, even if they did, a mathematician as bouncer would probably be as much use as a one-legged man in an arse kicking contest.

I did say most.

I'll buy you a drink if I'm there and we do decide to go drinking if it will make you feel any better?

Perhaps this is not the point of the "meet".

However, I do echo the question of "what is the point?".

To put names to faces, to spend an enjoyable afternoon socialising with like minded people and most importantly... because we can

The answer to that question (i.e. the question {in question[as raised by your good self (the member{of this forum [i.e. 'The Student Room']} known as Erdos{at the time of posting[the time indicated on this post]})]}) is that social intercourse in a face-to-face setting is perceived as desirous by a large proportion of society.

I (Jake22) believe that what you (the member{of this forum [i.e. 'The Student Room']} known as Erdos{at the time of posting[the time indicated on this post]}) term as 'the point' is to interact socially for the purpose of enjoyment.

I don't believe I've actually ever met a like-minded mathematician of a similar age IRL before.
Neither have I.
I hope Hathlan's okay with being heavily outnumbered by males.

But you have identified the existence of such people (through here for example) hence unless you are a constructivist, you may rest assured.

I expect she's more than OK with it :p:
Nah, I'm 19 (20 this year :lolwut: ) and I don't drink, so if the 17 year olds keep me supplied with coke I'll return the favour.
Oooo! It might be worth investigating if the CMS (Cambridge Maths Faculty) have happy hour outside of term (they sell bottles of ale that taste like bananas for £1.30, lush!) I'd be keen for anywhere though, so long as I am still a maths student after exams :-/.

20 this year? Crazy, I'm still 20!

Tell me about it. One of my friends from school will still be 20 when he finishes his degree (BSc Maths at Birmingham) - I turn 20 after my first term at uni! :shifty:

Luke, what are your plans for post-graduation? Part III?

Seeing how enthusiastic everyone is about this, if it's in Cambridge I might turn up. Otherwise, no.

What I believe is the main objective is to get to know, in person, the participants of this forum as real people instead of the seemingly weak characterisation of their individuality inside this forum.

Especially those who'll probably be spending their mornings in the same room as me in a few months time. :yep:

Perhaps I should have qualified the original question ("what is the point?") with "given that communication between all parties (wanted) in attendance is already catered for through the use of this forum ("The Student Room")".

I think you should attend (the {so-called} meet} as I ({the user known[at the time of writing] as} "Jake22") would like to discuss the possibility of incorporating the so-called "bracket" (or "bracketing") system (as named by yourself) into everyday speech in order to increase the efficiency of (vocal{human-to-human}) interaction.

Your brackets have been misplaced.

I hope my flagrant unparseability didn't crash anyone's PC :p:

Yeah kinda, but they're loosish plans :p: Hopefully can do well enough to get on it.

Failing that I might become a rockstar.

I'll be (nearly) 25 by the time I finish my fourth year so according to a recent thread in the 'Mathematics Courses' forum, I'll be well on my way to past it.
Social interaction is so last century, embrace the new form of communication on the internet.
i'm still 18.

we should get camps going, the warwick mathmos and the cambridge mathmos and then everyone else  woot.

wherever it ends up being i'm up for going.
