Which is, er, exactly why we didn't accept. We had already thought of the worst case scenario; a ridiculous coalition of the whole left-wing, if we had thought you would have be so desperate to do that, we surely would've accepted Dayne's offer of a coalition. But we didn't, knowing that in terms of ideology we're more compatible with the Libs, which is what is important. Unlike the Soc/Lab/Dem's desperate, and inept, attempt to hold some form of grip over power, regardless of what you have to do to get it.

But back to the real point - are you, Dave, going to encourage your MPs to vote for something because it's politically convenient for you, despite being wrong, illogical and nonsensical?

No I haven't completely changed the topic.

Situation: Coalition Government between Socialists and non Socialists for anti-Conservative purposes
Problem: Socialists and non Socialists in the same Government
Conclusion: Rectify this by assuring us that the Lib Dems are actually Socialists

Honestly, when Dayne gets up on stage and says "We now have a Socialist Government" or something along those lines then I will stop complaining and I would hope that all other Conservatives would too.

Plurality, not majority.

And yes, entirely probably. In fact, in that circumstance, it would be even better - we might have got a majority of seats.

And anyway, even if the only reason our parties came together was to prevent a right wing domination, what's not ideological about that? We wish to prevent right wing policies from taking over the house. It's not that we dislike you guys personally, and wished to spite you.

Given Alasdair's reaction and some of the stuff you guys came out with in your newspaper (whether it's tongue in cheek or not is irrelevant) I can scarcely believe that there is no element of spite involved.

I personally am against coalitions and party politics in general (admittedly there is no other way than party politics in this house) and especially against PR.

=/ wut? All you need to win an election is get more votes, m'dear. Try harder next time As you can see by the fact that we got the same number of seats but more votes, it's actually our side who're disadvantaged by the electoral system.

I don't understand why you can't accept that there is a real, non-personal reason why left-wing parties would want to keep a right wing party out of dominance, and that a good reason to form a coalition is to advance the agendas of the individual parties as well as the broader group.

How hypocritical is that?, the Socialist party lost votes and we got almost twice as many as them. The Tory party had the best election result yet, we couldnt have done any better.

Well that would solve a lot of problems and I have suggested that in the past.

If you can find "numerous issues" where you are on a common ground with us, then what the hell are you doing in a coalition with the Socialists and Labour with whom we have basically no common ground?

Well I guess you just won't be forming a government ever, then, will you I don't see what's particularly "unfair", particularly from your Darwinian Tory perspective, about the right not winning if a majority of voters are lefties.
