What do you think of the idea? Does it seem logical? What do you see of the potential/negative effects of this system?
Well, the reason im bringing this up is that the idea above will be introduced in Canada in the next 5 years.
Now, i know christain groups will be opposed to the idea, as well as some right wing groups.
I see some benifits from the system. It would free up another parent to join the workforce (which is critical in Canada.) Also, a family could earn a larger income.
It's just that we, as the rest of the western world, are seeing a ever increasing amount of seniors entering the system, and a decrease in the amount of people replacing the positions that once were occupied. Canada is not producing enough childern here at home, and thus rely on immigrants to sustain a population growth. The main reason that we here in Canada arent producing enough childern is that the cost of having childern is quite expensive.
So what do you all think of the idea? -
What sort of cost per child?(Original post by canuck)

People with children receive tax breaks, which can be interpreted as an aid toward the expenses that having children brings. Is it really necessary to take more money from childless people to subsidize the reproductive decisions of others?(Original post by canuck)

Canuck, I see it as one step closer to sweeping socialism. It reminds me of Hillary Clinton's book 'it takes a village'(Original post by canuck)

Anyway, if that's what the Canadians want...so be it.
Yes, the family *would* have more disposible income, at the expense of a parentless child and dipping into someone else's pocketbook to help pick up the tab.I see some benifits from the system. C'mon Canuck, let's be honest here....Okay.It's just that we, as the rest of the western world, are seeing a ever increasing amount of seniors entering the system, and a decrease in the amount of people replacing the positions that once were occupied. Well, like i said, we need people to reproduce here. Currently, our population growth is only sustained by immigration.(Original post by psychic_satori)

People arent reproducing due the the cost of having children. A parent has to remain at home to manage the children.
Yes, parents are given tax breaks, but they arent nearly enough to give incentive to have kids.
I know the U.S. dosnt have this problem, but Canada does. Your labour market is maintained by the steady flow of mexicans across your border. Lucky you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
