Why is English Language A level less respected?

I was looking at the Trinity College list and apparently English language is listed under the category 'B', whereas other subjects (art history, French, physics) are classed as 'A'. I don't understand this. I'd have thought English language would be equal to literature in terms of difficulty? It's very technical and hardly an easy option.

I would say it's becuase you can blag Eng Lang easily, you don't have to learn much, you really just need to be natural and have good teqnique, where something like eng lit is harder, you need to memorize quotes, read different books and understand/analyse diificult texts, etc...

Really? I always thought of it as being among the harder A levels. It's one of those subjects that should be difficult, if that makes sense, and if it isn't then that says more about the syllabus than the subject itself.

I do understand why lit is harder, though. Memorising quotations must be horrible.
