oooh, I highly recommend 'Perdido Street Station' for any sci-fi or fantasy fants. I'm reading it at the moment and it's so macabre and weird, it's awesome :-) -

Like some of the other people on here, I like Discword, Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl, and Bartimaeus.
To add some new stuff to the list, I also like Shadow Children books, which are by Margaret Peterson Haddix. For people interested in vampires, the Noble Dead books by Barb and JC Hendee are good. -
