Bgp.
Applied for BGP starting in 09 and all I've read about on forums, magazines and websites since then is how **** Broadgate is and how **** Nottingham Uni is! I'm really ******** myself now, I'm going to get into a huge amount of debt, and I don't want my time there to be ruined. Is BGP really this awful and uninhabitable? Or are these reviewers simply exaggerating? If I've paid my deposit is it possible to cancel the contract now, as I'd rather commute or go private if that's the case? I'd like some honest opinions please before I sink myself further into a huge pile of stinking ****.

Re: Bgp.
Joshy darling, please remember that generally the only people who bother to write reviews about things are those who have something to say- i.e. those who either REALLY hated it, or REALLY loved it.
You're bound to get a mixed response, and the bad reviews are likely to be more frequent and hard hitting because.. well they're bad. Im pretty certain anywhere you stay you'll have an amazing time. -
Re: Bgp.
BGP is fine. I lived there last year. If you can cook and look after yourself, you'll love it! Heck, even if you can't it's good fun trying. No one can tell what flatmates you'll get, but everyone knows people in different flats so you can always find other people you get on with better, especially in Freshers' Week/Week one.
Be sociable and open-minded, and don't go in already worrying, that'll just ruin it for you. It will be fine, there's no way being in a certain hall can stop you having a good time if you're determined to have a good time.
I pity your bank balance though! That was probably the only thing I hated about BGP.
As for Nottingham Uni as a whole, it's a great Uni and I love it. Good luck and enjoy it!

Re: Bgp.
Just done my first year there, bloody hated it! Unsociable blocks, terrible bar, and don't get me started on the BGP staff...
Yes I have met some great people which I am thankful for, but the place is generally really quiet, and is just a complete letdown for a fresher experience. I have visited other Uni accommodation and am frankly gutted I ended up in BGP.
However, if you're quiet and like your own space then maybe BGP is for you. -

Re: Bgp.Most of whom probably have not lived in both.(Original post by priceless_beauty)
The people that are saying all the negative stuff about Broadgate are the ones comparing it to Uni park halls.
Presumably you will meet more people through catered halls, as they are larger. That doesn't necessarily translate to a better social scene, especially not from an individual point of view. -
Re: Bgp.Yes Uni park halls, and other Uni's i've visited and stayed at such as Manchester, Sheffield, UEA and Leeds. People who have visited me at BGP from other Uni park halls and other Uni's seem to think the same too. Personally I think BGP is v poor from a social perspective, there just isnt much going on other than a couple of occasionally sociable blocks, it's generally a quiet bubble, and sometimes I suspect that people who think it's ok here may not have anything else to compare it against. But maybe thats a good thing.(Original post by priceless_beauty)
Which accomodation was better? i assume your talking about uni park halls?
Yes it is what you make of it at the end of the day, you can still make a good life at BGP, the students are generally v nice but it seems to require lots of effort if you want to increase your social circle, and I can't help feeling shorthanded when I have visited and stayed at much better Uni accommodation.Last edited by DeftTouch; 01-06-2009 at 02:40. -
Re: Bgp.I live in uni halls, and I sometimes think I'd have prefered to be in Broadgate. I'd like to live in a flat with a few people, I imagine you get quite close. In halls there is your room which is just one of 300 rooms - there aren't really any smaller subdivisions (not where I am anyway) so there isn't always a natural group, which you would get in a flat.(Original post by priceless_beauty)

Anyway, uni experience is what you make it, you can't turn around and say you've had a rubbish time socially and it's all the fault of where you're living. If you're a sociable person then you'l be fine. If not, then try to be and you'l also get on fine. In fresher's week everybody is friendly. Go in, be friendly and you will become good friends with your flatmates. Get stuck in with societies, and you'll make even more friends. You will be fine.Last edited by jhs08; 01-06-2009 at 14:35.
