How can I increase my calorie intake but still be healthy?
How can I increase my calorie intake, but still be healthy, and not feel like I am over eating?
I made this post the other day: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/show...4#post19118894
Spoiler:ShowBreakfast:
- 1 serving of porridge or meusli with soya milk
- 1 portion fruit
Lunch:
- Salad, usually about 3 handfuls with something else, e.g. half a tin of tuna
OR
- A serving of soup with a slice of bread
Dinner:
- e.g. a fist of meat, 2 servings of veg and 3 salad potatos
This was what I was told was a normal healthy diet, but shouldnt it be atleast 1,200?
I decided to count my calories the other day and it came to 820.
That's not enough, right? And I have been noticing that I have been losing a bit of weight these last few months I have been eating this.
Some nights I have eating more. Sometimes dinner is high calories, like lasange, or I might go out for a meal. But thats a very typical day.
and from the overall response, I should be eating more.
But how can I increase it without being unhealthy and feeling like I am eating far too much? Thanks.Last edited by K!*; 30-05-2009 at 20:49. -
Re: How can I increase my calorie intake but still be healthy?
I think this is a good question actually
My laptop battery's about to run out and I can't be bothered to charge it
But what is your aim? For instance do you want to just GAIN or do you want to gain muscle i.e. with any weights youre doing?
If you're just GAINing eat lots of wholemeal pasta, bread (bagels etc.)., potato, you can cram them into anything
Or you can go down the protein route and go for meat, Quorn, eggs
I might reply better tomorrow if no one else does... eee battery almost gone -
Re: How can I increase my calorie intake but still be healthy?
well you're having no snacks. you should aim to have something between breakfast/lunch, lunch/dinner, and possibly an evening snack a few hours after dinner. Something like a handful of peanuts would be good - easy, high calorie and healthy. banas and smoothies could also be good
make your dinners bigger, add more to them
remember you don't have to eat just healthy foods, it is ok to have a few 'bad' things occassionally, as long as you don't live off junk -
Re: How can I increase my calorie intake but still be healthy?Open a tin of tuna and grab a fork...(Original post by K!*)
Do you mean have fish and eggs as snacks?
Boil an egg get some bread and butter and mash the egg...
Eat porridge...
Eat yoghurts...
It's really easy, anything but for mcdonalds isn't going to kill you.
CHEESE! -

If you weighed 20st then fine cut out the butter, but if you're increasing you're intake then i dont think you need to worry about blood pressure or colesterol at all as it sounds you're trying to gain weight.
A light spread of butter to make an egg butty wont do any harm whatso ever the butters just what goes on the bread as standard, use somet else if you like.
Dairy products are a large chunk of a healthy diet, Full fat milk when you're young is good for you, natural yoghurt is bloody brilliant with some apple or pear in a bowl for a healthy snack.
I dont think you need to worry as much as you are about the health implications of different foods unless you are indeed 20st at 5ft10" and cant see your toes.
Tuna, Wholemeal Pasta, Light Mayo and Sweetcorn will do wonders for you
