Default Skinny guy wanting to be... not so skinny!!

So I'm basically another of those skinny guys(tm) that there seem to be a lot of these days. And with the warm weather recently I find myself feeling a bit insecure about my body and my skinny arms etc. etc.

So with that new-found impetus for weight gain/strength gain I was thinking about what I usually eat:

A bowl of cereal with semi-skilled milk (Weetabix Minis ftw!)

2 Jacket potatoes with cheese (sometimes also baked beans)

An apple/banana

Dinner would usually be curry (not in a very exciting way - chicken, curry sauce and rice), or pasta. I really don't have much variety at all for evening meals. I've somehow got it into my head that any recipe etc. that requires more than a 2-step process is somehow gonna cost me a fortune and not worth doing =/

I also don't really snack, in the sense that I don't ever buy things to 'snack on'? I have this weird thing though, where if for example Sainsburys has a 5-pack of Snickers on offer for a £1 - I will go to the supermarket and buy that and then eat the whole thing (all 5 of them!) in one day. And I might do the same 3 days later on a 6 pack of crisps, eat most of them in one day. I need to space my eating more throughout the day, but I don't know what to snack on? I remember seeing an episode of Supersize/Superskinny where there was this guy who ate total CRAP but was somehow stick thing?

I guess I need to put on lean muscle and not simply... get fat I mean it would seem to me, looking at what I eat, would be just "more protein/eat more meat", but is there more different things I should be eating? I hear all this "eat wholemeal rice/wholemeal pittas" but does that really make much of a difference?

*Also* - Much to my shame, I have never been in a gym. I had to have someone tell me what a "rep" was ffs! I know completely nothing. But obviously if I am to be following what will hopefully be a revised meal plan from posts I get to this thread then that will have to be combined with visits to a gym. So does anyone have any links to webpages or whatever that explain all the different gym... stuff Seems a bit scary all the "do this, don't do that, don't forget about this or you'll end up with legs like gok wan..." etc. etc.

Sorry for the rambling thread but I'm finally in the mood to start changing things!! Cheers :]

*sigh*

You spent a lot of time typing when you could've done a quick search. That fruitful search would have rewarded you with Starting Strength and GOMAD. This will change your life and put you on the road to becoming a man. Good luck and Godspeed, I wish you all the best.

Or instead of drinking a gallon of milk you could just eat more actual food, but you know, it's up to you...

Try and count the number of calories you are consuming each day. If you aren't going to the gym you should have at least 1g of protein/kg body weight per day - ie. if you weigh 60kg then 60g.

Eat at least that amount of protein. how you increase the amount of overall calories is up to you. It's a bit trial and error but try and find the things you can consume lots of that seem to be calorie/energy rich.

Also still try to make sure you get plenty of fibre, vitamins/minerals.

The better your diet and exercise regime, the better your results (ie; bigger, stronger, fitter, etc) and the healthier you're going to be.

What does your current exercise regime and diet tell you? You're not going to get bigger and stronger not resistance training and eating packs of chocolate bars at a time.

Check out the sticky, it's got a section on healthy eating and several recommendations of workout routines. Put those bits together and you're set.
