Holden's voice is just abysmal. If he wasn't narrating it, it would be an alright book.
I loved The Catcher in the Rye, but I can understand why some people loathe it. The hype surrounding it doesn't help.
I first read it when I was twelve or thirteen, and I'm willing to admit that if I first read it when I was eighteen or older, it probably wouldn't have made quite the same impression on me.
