There is an orbit of a Star viewed from Earth.
Use the following information to find the mass of the central object.
Period: 15.2 years
Inclination: 46 degrees
Eccentricity: 0.87
Semimajor Axis: 0.119"
Distance: 8Kpc
These are (I think) the values measured.
He converts the 0.119" into metres = 1.4 x 10^14m
But then in Keplers third law, instead of using 1.4 for the semi-major axis, he uses 2.3.
I assume this is because of the inclination, but I can't work out how to get to the 2.3
Thanks
