I dont get how the LHR shows the force acting on S is to the right?
For that to happen the B-field would have to be going into the page, but doesnt the fact that current in S is going downwards mean the field is 'clockwise' around wire S and thus coming out of the page?

We do different papers so I haven't been able to see but as far as I know the arrow head analogy is:

circle with cross - imagine looking at an arrow going away from you, you will see the fletch and the feathers in a cross shape

circle with dot - imagine the arrow coming towards you, you will see the head or the shaft so just a dot

It is very simplified but it works for me!
