go on user CP, go on avatar and at the bottom you can upload your own and check the box to use it

Then you need to resize it to max 50 by 50.

Download what?

Either you need to get yourself an avatar that is already 50 by 50 OR you need to resize a picture you already have. Then you can either upload it from your computer or host it from your own webspace (or someone who is willing to provide)
