Right: For the visa application, it asks you to state where your passport was issued? My passport (American) does not say where it was issued, and I can't figure it out online. What should I do?
Is this for your current passport?

Just put down which passport office issued it - you should know this, it is the passport office you sent your documents to, to get your passport.

Yeah, my current passport. And I didn't have to send it to a passport office, as I had to apply in person at a post office, since my old passport was issued before I turned 16. The post office then sent off my documents to somewhere, so I have no idea where it was actually issued.

Thanks Ariana and Moon86! Yeah, it does seem like there is no possible way to show the 28-day period if, for example, you only opened the account a week or two ago. And why would they need to see documents for 28 days if they only care about one of the days? (but then again we've already established that logic does not apply to this).

I guess I will call my bank today and see if they can print statements on demand, if not I will just use a letter and it will have to do!

OH, I just realized I could also print out online statements and just get my bank to certify them. Silly me!

hmmm I don't know then, I never applied for a passport that way. Plus, the issuing office is written on my passport. sorry!

If you really can't figure it out just write "USA" or something...I mean the important part is that they have your passport!

Yeah, I was reckoning on just writing Washington D.C. if I can't figure it out. If it is not written on my passport, then I figure I can't be faulted if it's wrong. :p:

Also went to get my photos , they are an absolute disaster , I went to 2 places , first set of photos looked like **** , so I decided to go to another place and didn't get the required result as well even though we tried about 10 times lol ...
I will try again before my appointment because i'm not sure the photos are good enough !
Oh what a pain. Yes, my photos were an adventure too :yep:, but I think they're okay now. The people at the photo place told me they've done tons of UK Visa photos the same way and they've never had a problem so...
    What was wrong with yours?

Pretty much everything , the lighting, the background, the proportions, it just doesn't look as good as indicated on the photo guidance , not to mention that I look like a psycho killer :o: it drives me crazy.

I handed the photographers the guidance but none of them actually bothered to follow so I asked for my money back.

I was told that there's a photographer in the same building as the consulate and he knows the instructions well . So my only chance with getting normal set of photos is again tomorrow morning before the appointment :eek3: :eek3:

I wrote Washington DC. Couldn't find mine either... and I don't know what office it was issued from because after I applied it could have been sent anywhere.

Yeah you should convert it into pounds using the http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic website with exchange rate on the day of your application

hahahaha. I shouldn't even go here... but- that would mean I'll need the conversion rate from a couple weeks ago. Right? We've decided that the application date is the date you pay?

Also, would I just scribble in the conversion? Write it on a separate piece of paper? Are there any instructions how to do this?

It says you can write it on the document. write it neatly beside the total.

You need to use the date that your statement was printed ("the date of your closing balance" ). This won't necessarily be the same as the date of your application, but it might.

Right, okay. Have you gotten your visa yet, to know if they accepted you saying D.C.? By the way, what uni are you going to?

The exchange rate they use is the one on www.oanda.com

And, they will use the exchange rate of the date of your letter to convert your funds to pounds.
What is "your letter" referring to? haha just trying to figure out what day's rate I should use

The letter from your bank, if you're using a letter.
But you are using a statement, so in your case it would be the date of your statement (the last day).

I don't think this is one of those things that makes a big difference in the grand scheme of things....write USA, DC, planet earth, i don't know, whatever you want :p: The important thing are the documents.

No I haven't. I just searched this question on the web and found a couple people who just said to put Washington DC if there was no other place of issue. So I'm not worried about that.

And I'm going to the University of Birmingham MSc Marketing!

Okay, thanks! I tried searching on the web to find where my passport was issued, but obviously found nothing. I didn't think to search for anything else! :p:

Yeah, that's what I thought too. If it were something terribly important, I'd be totally panicking right now.

hmm i think it is mostly us Masters students in this thread :p:

I'm finding it funny how we are smart enough to get an MA admission offer from some of the most prestigeous Unis in the UK (or even the world), yet when it comes to all this visa stuff we are a bunch of nervous idiots :p: hahaha

No! It's just the type of people we are. We analyze everything. And we're used to being so prepared so that things run smoothly... so we just kinda freak out in the meantime to ensure that they do.

    Anyways, I blame the system!

Yeah that's true too, that's definitely how I am anyways! Analytical and over-prepared :yep:
