Your scaled coursework mark, x/60 is added to the raw written mark, y/60 to give a total of 120.

x+y/120 is then scaled into a UMS mark.

Usually, you need 96 or 97/120 for an A.

It's all very annoying and seemingly over complicated.

how's revision going?

I have no idea...

I don't really understand how to revise for this exam. You're just automatically expected to know everything and be able to either a) interpret it from a table/diagram, or b) structure it poetically into an essay.

I've 'deepened' my knowledge of respiration and gone through digestion again. Not sure what else to do really. Had a think about some essay topics.

You?

I think an essay on either "lipids" or "light and living organisms" might come up

:o: ..we should put some notes down..have no idea what i would write about this , apart from photosynthesis..

and Yes please i would want the lipid one too. :woo:
Can't really think of much for negative feedback. Basically all of the homeostasis stuff, sex hormones and water balance and thats all I can think of. Any other ideas?

Co2 and pH level increase in gas exchange so inspiratory center sends impulses etcc I THINK there was another negative feedback to do with the heart... dno cant think of it :s-smilie:

lipids:

phospolipid bilayer
digestion
respiratory substrate
composition
biochemical test
casparian strip
myelin sheath
insulation

negative feedback:
homeostasis - thermoregulation and osmoregulation as well as blood glucose
ventilation - stimulation of chemoreceptors
hormones - LH/oestrogen
population stability - competition/predators/stabilising selection

(i cant take credit for these, cant remember who put them out there but i found them helpful  )

for light could you talk about behaviour ie taxis and kinesis...
Reply 92
Going to sit down with all the topics you helpful lads and ladies have mentioned and kind of brainstorm(think thats politically incorrect so I will say mindmap if you take offence to it)every angle possible. So atleast I can kind of go in and write satisfactory amounts in the 25 markers.

Any other sites for notes and advice would be helpful.

Thanks

Yeah and also can I think you can talk about Trophic levels..food webs as in the producers get all energy from light first.

Ruminants and fatty acids
-Bacteria, anaerobic respiration, fatty acids used as main energy source by cow.

Also isn't the Casparian Strip made from lipid?
The cell wall of the endodermis contains a casparian strip, which is waterproof which is made of suberin. Water cannot cross this barrier and is diverted into the cytoplasm (cannot continue apoplast pathway). So all the way travels through cytoplasm or vacuole.

I have around 20 essay plans, but it would take me forever to type it up.

Got any specific essay plans you want and I'll check if I have them.
