hi i should (hopefully) be going 2 keele in sept, im holding a conditional firm offer for music and economics. It seems really cool, i live in birmingham so cant wait to get a bit of fresh air! I was just wondering, i put in the "other relevant information" bit on my accomodation form that i wanted to live in lindsay hall, do u reckon ive got a pretty good chance of getting a room there?

Thanx

i put some stuff like that too. What subjects r u doing?
English and Media, Communications and Culture.

What instrument do you play? I want to keep my music on the side when I'm (hopefully!) at Keele. I put stuff like I'm interested in Classical, Rock, Punk, Emo, Indie etc...

mmm i didnt put anthing in additonal information oops

Me neither. So thats another oops and oh yeh anotha..... Lol, i don't think the additional information section was for stating a preference. That defeats the object about the whole random room allocation. Lol but i like your style Natalie_p , I'm sure they'll smile whe they will see that and allocate you Lindsay hall.

Enjoy the summer

Peace
I was in such a rush to send it off i also missed it. I probably would have written some crap about being a n/s friendly person. I'm kinda glad i missed the section, as i suppose i can be "el mysterio", and give the uni a surprise when i reach......yeah right, whatever

I went to Keele last year, but left, I hated the course, it just wasn't for me....decided to go to Leeds instead, but in my opinion Lindsay halls were the best, they seemed to be pretty central, campus wise and were pretty decent inside and there's Lindsay bar about 2 minutes away.....so it's great for staggering home. the passport photos will be for your keele card, which is essential for access to the union and Library, and ull need another for ur NUS card....which is handy for on-sight discounts.
although I wouldn't worry because they can take your picture on enrolment day! and ull have ur cards within a week.
The student union is pretty good, I loved sunday nights.....student kareoke etc....Manic Mondays are also pretty good, make sure you go to see the hypnotist, it was one of the best nights out I had at Keele, there was a wicked stand up comedian act too......

If you wanna keep ur music on the side, there's loads of things you can join, just go along to the freshers fair and sign up, it's in the union! If you miss it you can join at any time, they always need members, I found that the Big Band and the windband were pretty good, as was the keele phil choir, rehersals wern't too long and there's always a good social after in Lindsay bar or the union.....Sunday nights are good, if you play in the Jazz band as there's a kareoke night!....just watch out for Lionel!!!! u have been warned
lol

hey, I did music at Keele, and it's pretty hard if not near impossible to get into Lindsay Halls, if u are lucky enough to get in, it's great for rolling out of bed and stumbling down to the clockhouse for lectures.
I hope you enjoy the course, I didn't enjoy the music technology course, but really enjoyed music so I've left to go to another university to focus on a ourely music degree.........but everyone I know loves it at keele, so I'm positive you'll have a great time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ur right about the fresh air, just watch out for the squirrels!!!!
If there's anything you wanna know, feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]

I was in Horwood and loved it, but I was in nice halls (L Block) Wasn;t ensuite but TBH friends who were said it's bit of waste of money. I had a sink and that was fine. BTW, One of the best things about Keele halls is the very fast free internet.

One things they dont mention on open days is you could get mixed year halls. Some 3rd yrs, even the odd 2nd year. This is good in some ways as they help you out, tell you best clubs, taxis, kebab places, etc, and if they do your course, help with work. However, I ended up as the only 1st yr with 11 3rd years and it was difficult meeting people as I felt quite alone.
If you end up in same position, make friends with them (i'm sure they'll be lovely) and don't feel shy going up to random people and saying 'hi, i'm a fresher living with 3rd years, will you be my friend?' (it works - honest) Joins societies and chat to people in lecs, it won't seem so bad!

I totally agree, I made friends with lots of second and third years, it's not possible to be on your own. Even if I went for a coffee in the union, I'd get approached by a fresher, second or third year, the're really friendly and very helpful. I met a really cool guy called Zaas, he was more than happy to show me around and even helped me with an essay

If u go to Keele and join any of the extra curric music groups, u are likely to meet Lionel, he's nice enough, but is absoluely desperate for a girlfriend....whatever you do, don't offer to help him with the music stands, he's likely to escort you to his bedroom to pick them up...which is scary enough!!!! ohhh, and you have to watch him sing Karaoke....it's the funniest thing I've ever seen, I had the pleasure of doing a rendition of Barbie Girl with him last year.... don't worry if u can't understand a word he says.... lol
Is anyone planning to bring a mini-fridge?
Reply 55
good idea but i dont think i will the rooms are small as it is lol

I was thinking of the mini fridge but thought i would leave it until i get to the uni and have seen my accomo. Also, I think it all comes down to if the cleaners will allow you to have one.

Peace
Hi
Just lettin you all know you're not allowed mini-fridges am sorry, or refrigerators unless you need one for medical reasons (and you have to have proof).
You're not allowed heaters either...
And also, you're not allowed to use deep far fryers or chip pans in the kitchens.
Sorry
Awww that's poo.
(saying that though, I did know people who had mini-fridges and just hid them from the cleaners...)
